How poor is the siting of the web cam ?

Post by Goatee »

see tbh I don't reckon the view you get does anything at all for CVO. Makes the place look like a ghost town most of the time. Surely in this day in age a better position could be found that shows off just how vibrant the town can be, not just random unknown people waving or having a wee kiss. A view of the square would be a much better advert, imho.

It's mounted on the wall of the icecream shop, which I believe is owned by Steen. I quite like it's posotion because you can get feel for the weather and how busy it is.

The ice cream parlour webcam always seems "Lower" in the summer and "warmer" in the winter compared to the actual reading I get on my Patio (NOT in direct sunlight)
never quite figured why apart from the tarmac radiating heat in the winter??

Have a look at these, they are over Martins Grill and give you about a frame every 2 seconds or so.

http://progarve.gotdns.com/cam/

Cerainly better than the one over the Ice cream parlour.

Metabixo was indeed one of the best placed webcams. There was another sited up the hill near the GNR station which gave a great view of the beach from side on. There were also good ones overlooking the square in Portimao and one in Ferragudo. I think they all appeared on the webcamgalore.com website, but they all gradually stopped being streamed. I am not sure why this happens. I suppose webcamgalore charges a fee for hosting the cams and possibly the webcam owners fall behind with fees and the hosting company pulls the plug. Alternatively, maybe some webcam owners cease operating their webcams due to lack of advertisers. Webcamgalore does still operate, because they are still hosting webcams in other places. Fortunately new cameras do appear now and then. One of the latest is at the Cascade Resort near Lagos. This used to just show a building site where the resort was to be developed, but now it has been moved and shows a street with new apartment buildings which have just been completed. It is at http://www.cascade-resort.com and is a good one for checking out the weather if you are not actually in Portugal. It is not fully streaming, but it updates every 60 seconds.
