Car hire (again!!)
Car hire (again!!)
I know, I know, this has been discussed over and over and over again!!
However I am somewhat of "fuss pot" and have always stuck with what I know. My wife says it's my OCD!! I have historically used a company not too well known called Carjet, they have alwyas been great on price and service. However, getting my quote for May 2011 returning to CVO Carjet's prices have shot up. I subsequently obtained alternative prices. For a five door car for a 14 day rental Carjet want 301.30 Euros, Holiday Autos 349.20 Euros and Algarve Driver 280.56 Euros.
My question is, bearing in mind my reluctance to change (OCD?!?!), are Algrave Driver ok? I have seen various posts and they are reccomended on this forum, I guess I just want to hear good things (hopefully) before I hit that BOOK button on their web site.
Any comments, good, bad or indifferent gratefully appreciated.

Re: Car hire (again!!)
I have used AlgarveDriver for myself or guests at our Villa 103 times since May 2003
Either we are a glutton for punishment, or they are pretty good and reliable.

Re: Car hire (again!!)
We always use Algarve driver (YOR car) and have nothing but praise for them, the cars are always in good nick except for the odd scratch or five! It is easy to meet the rep in the airport (by the cafe in the centre) and walk across to park 4 at the back of the airport and drive off, same when you return, just drive to the car park and hand over the car, couldn't be simpler. We have always found them to be the best price and I like the 'extra' in that if you book often during the year your loyalty points build up to a free weeks hire.

Try Zit Auto - you won't find any better IMHO

AlgarveDriver simply the best, just finishing 48 days rental with 5 car type changes. It went like clock work.
We allways use them every trip.

I can't match eRichards 103 but we have used Algarvedriver a fair few times. The only problem I had was a breakdown. They sent out a truck and a Rep. drove me around to Monte Carvoeiro where I got a replacement.
Also, when you use Algarvedriver you are supporting www.carvoeiro.com

Have used Algarvedriver several times a year for several years - never had a problem. Before them I used Carjet (which at the time acted as agent for Budget) and there was always an issue with them over full tanks, fussy inspections and very very high excesses. In my opinion Algarvedriver are better value and easier to deal with. Don't forget you can get free hire in the winter if you (or your guest) use them a lot and Steen offers a price match service.

Re: Car hire (again!!)
Hi Lamby,
We find economycarhire.com to be not only one of the best for price, but their service is second to none. I personally prefer to use Travelrent from their list of suppliers, but have used Drive4fun in the past without problem. Doing a quick check, economycarhire are asking £179 for a 4 (5) door Matiz in May 2011 (for 14 days). For the same class of car, algarvedriver.com quote 325 euros.
For this comparison I have included the 6 euro / day cover for the insurance excess in the algarvedriver.com quote - economycarhire.com do not have an excess on their insurance.
Hope this is of use to you.
Regards,
Adam

Thanks Adam. Just been on the economycarhire web site - looked for the catch but couldn't find one. They are very competitive. another option to consider. Need to get booked asap. Thanks

YOR are OK! unless you get your quarter light smashed.

Hi Cereza
Tried Zit Auto. As well as my OCD I am a Conspiracy Theorist and as such I have to ask the question - why does an overseas car hire company want to know my private home address? This information together with my holiday dates sets alarm bells ringing. No other car hire company has asked me this. Email address, mobile number, age etc.... But NOT a personal address!!

Why shouldn't they? They'll get it from your driving licence anyway when you pick the car up, so giving it to them in advance simply speeds up the process at the airport.Lamby wrote:Hi Cereza

Re: Car hire (again!!)
Mike Banks beat me to the answer but he is right - any firm can get your address from your driving license.
I have been using Zits for over 13 years and I have recommended them to many people without any problems.
I have never found anyone else more competitive and so I have never tried anyone else apart from the big companies who I would never use again. As for other small companies such as YOR I am sure they are absolutely fine as per the other recommendations but I have no personal experience of them. Good luck.
