Well I drove on the A22 yesterday from Faro to Lagos and there was no work going on at all. The only gantry with any mechanisms on it was the first one - after that it was just steel work with nothing on them so looks like the delay may be true - hope so!!
I have a hire car from Zit as usual and won't be returning it until after the 15th but they had no idea what will happen :?

We have just come back from picking friends up from the airport and drove the A22 from Faro to Carvoeiro and measured the distance at 41.5km. If what we have heard is true that the tolls will be 7 cents a km, that means the trip from the airport to Carvoeiro will cost you €2,91. Could be worse I suppose.

I have never thought that the cost was an issue just the method of payment.

I had worked on 5 euros each way to and from the airport, plus a few side trips so the max would only be less than 20euros, thats just a few cocktails less.

Is there any truth in the rumour that the introduction of the tolls is being delayed until September?

Is the charge per day on that A22 or for a charge every time it is used, even if say it was driven on three times a day? Would that mean three charges for that day?

The rumour is based on the instability of the Portuguese government - but it is rumour (not the instability of the government) :)

It is being reported that the legality of bringing in legislation while there is only a temporary government in place in Portugal is being questioned. I have heard that some time this week there will b an answer as to if the temporary gov is able to introduce the tolls, if it is not then we will have to wait until June after the new elections to see what the new gov have to say on the situation and if they are willing to continue with the plans.
There is another Go Slow planned for Saturday though as the leaders of the protests have said they want to keep the pressure on to show Lisbon that the Algarve is still against the tolls, no matter who is in government.

Patti - that's great news - but what's happened to all the 'newshounds' on here - I though they would have been shouting this from the rooftops. Great news nonetheless - if it's true :D

We need more confirmation, this has not been stated on other forums.

Where is the official view.

There was a report on RTP news, the subject is still being discussed in government as the legality of the tolls in the current political situation is being questioned.

Al least I think that is what is being said ??
