Reataurants Catering for a Gluten Free Diet

Post by Olwyn B »

I will be on holiday in Carvoeiro from 25th April to 6th May 2011. As I have an intolerance to gluten (Coeliac Disease) does anyone have any information on local restaurants/cafes that can cater for a gluten free diet please?

Thanks for your help

We had friends who stayed with us a 2 years ago and they have a daughter with the same problem.

They found that restaraunts like, Elliots, Tasco and the steak on stone type wee rall were able to offer suitable dishes.

Portuguese cuisine is very much meat or fish based and if you avoid any sauces then you should not find too many problems.

Olwyn B, I don't know how much help I can be, but Barnard's in Ferragudo is very good at catering for specific diets and will no doubt be able to create gluten-free dishes if you give them a ring in advance: 282 461 870

We have found that most of the 'good' restaurants will help out with this, my youngest is gluten and dairy intolerant and she doesn't have a problem, she will ask for the fish/meat to be cooked in oil not butter, no sauces and to make sure that no flour has been used. Chrissy's in Lagoa are especially good the Chef there will do a complete meal without dairy or gluten just phone before hand to let him know, also Brasserie Marina in Benagil is very good this way. Casa do Bife has also helped out with any of their dishes too. It is possible..
