Securitas Direct alarm system-Experience or comments please

Post by Bruce Wallis »

We are considering having an alarm system fitted by Securitas Direct Alarms.

Has anybody had experience with this company, its alarms and service provided.

If so , your comments and advice most gratefully received!!

I recently reviewed my security contract because I built an extension & needed 3 new detectors and a keypad relocating.

Prosecom the existing provider and Securitas (haven't they changed their name) quoted together with an independent guy from Lagos.

They all wanted to charge a lot of money for relatively little work and the annual service charges & service levels were similar. We stayed with Prosecom because there was no benefit in changing.

Good luck !!

We have had Securitas Alarm fitted for the past ten months. OK, it was a bit costly for all the initial sensors, Cameras etc. required, although the monthly charges are not bad.
It is a very good system and as far as I am concerned, does the job. However, I have had to call them out on seven occasions to replace Batteries and change a couple of sensors, which is free of charge but a nuisance as you have to be in when they arrive. They state that these things should last two years, but I have my doubts.
I like the ability to instantly call the Police or Ambulance, without using the phone, if there is a problem. When we set it off accidentally, the response from Securitas was immediate.
There is no contract as such and the equipment belongs to you. I did a lot of research prior to having them and they came up the best.

Prosecom were bought out by Charon, a very large security provider. We have a Securitas system and it works well albeit that is for a commercial set up.

Why Bruce have you caught anyone yet? I've got Prosecom and the only annoying thing I've found is that when guests set the alarm of accidentally I get a charge made against me at the end of the quarter for a callout, otherwise no problem. I have made enquiries about upgrading the system but I feel their charges for a minor addition internally were exhorbitant, I have a friend in the UK who has his own business and I know what his charges would be for the same update and they're considerably less.
I've experienced many variations in quotes in the UK and I never realised the technicall variations and requirements for insurance purposes, for instance the scan width of sensors can vary tremendously and that can make a massive difference to the costing in a quote, make sure the sensors cover the whole of the area you need to protect, for example we left a window open in one factory and someone put their arm through the gap and stole a laptop, the alarm was on but the sensor beam was narrow and the system didn't activate, so a waste of money really.

We used securitas for the full alarm system last year and they have been excellent. Any issues have been resolved immediately and the speed of response is immediate - we were over at easter and set alarm off accidentally (too many mojitos in Havana Bar) and before we would close the front door they had responded to ensure we were ok.

We installed a Securitas system last year, and we're very pleased with it. The cameras act as a deterrent, and we have sensors on all of the shutters, which means that we can set the system at night whilst in the house. We have had a couple of false alarms, when a bird cam down the chimney, and immediately received a phone call from the control centre. They speak perfect English, and will contact the GNR if you believe that a robbery is taking place. No complaints so far.

We have their basic package at our office, I can't say I'm overly impressed!! It seems a bit vague at catching intruders!! I often forget to put the code in & it doesn't kick off?? We have called them in twice and it is still the same....
