Lost dog on Gramacho
Lost dog on Gramacho
Friends of mine who have been staying on Gramacho have said there is a young female dog running around frantically there as though looking for something, they think she is either lost or has been abandoned.
They say she looks like a Staffi/Spaniel cross, she's black though her paws are white with black speckles & they think she is about a year old though it's hard to tell.
She appeared about a week ago & the staff at Gramacho say they have no idea where she has come from, the staff try to drive her off & shout at her. My friends say she has a collar (without ID tag) & she looks as though she has been well taken care of but she is beginning to look thin & is desperately hungry. She is extremely friendly & affectionate, my friends leave today & are very worried about her.
If anyone knows of anyone who has lost a dog recently perhaps they could let them know.

My sister who owns a villa on the Pinta complex(next to Gramacho) had a similar situation,family members were staying when a very friendly stray dog would visit and play with the kids. When the time came to return to the UK of course it was tears all round,they approached Valerie who could not help as she is overwhelmed with animals.
However the story has a happy ending they housed the dog at a boarding kennels for the obligatory 6 months and he is now in the UK being cared for at their home. My wife and i do what we can for the strays but its a never ending problem.

Thank you for the replies & pm's, silki has been in touch & has some news a lady has taken the little dog to the vet's in Lagoa to check whether it was micro-chipped or not unfortunately it isn't but it seems she is taking care of her albeit temporarily. Silki has been up to the course & so have I neither of us spotted the dog so hopefully the lady is looking after her.
My friend contacted me again to say that in last weeks Portugal news there was a picture of a dog that looked almost identical at the Donkey Sanctuary, whether or not this dog is the same & was re-homed & then lost we just don't know.
People often decide they want a dog but when they get one & realise the amount of time, effort & expense it requires rapidly go off the idea & then are too embarrassed to take it back to wherever they got it from so just dump it.
We rescued our little dog just over 3 years ago & her pups just had their 3rd birthdays on the 5th June, finding her was one of the best thing we ever did.

When people just discard animals they don't see(or perhaps they do) of the dangers they put their former beloved pets in getting abused, killed or literally starving to death!
Somebody around the corner from me has a lovely black cat. All of a sudden the cat lays under cars on the road or is meowing for food from door to door. The poor thing was distressed and abandoned. I took it in and fed it and now it is 'my' cat. Can't say I was too enthused at first but now I am very fond of it .
Just deliberately abandoning a defenceless animal is plain wicked.

I've known people who treat their dogs or cats as some sort of lifestyle accessory & when the animal no longer suits their lifestyle they get rid of it. I can't understand it, our animals are part of our family I could no more abandon them than I could our children (though I do keep trying with the children 
).
