Real Ale in CVO?

Yes this is weird I know, but does real ale exist in CVO. You know the stuff us CAMRA members love. I don.t mind the odd glass of Super Bock etc but after a bit old habits die hard and I just want a decent pint with a bit of taste. Maybe I am not asking for the right stuff and just go for whatever is on draught - put me right someone.

It may well have been a serious enquiry, although a little tongue in cheek maybe. It’s well known that English Real Ale doesn’t travel (that’s why IPA was invented), you may be able to get the more commercial types of bitter, like John Smiths etc, but proper real ale is extremely rare outside the confines of the UK. I’m sure you will manage to muddle through without your daily fix of ‘’Old Hookey’’ or whatever. Notwithstanding the above, I hope you have a good time.

You are sooo rude. What makes you so goddamn perfect that you can decide what people should and should not be allowed to ask/eat/drink when they go on holiday?

It may easily be that there are several good places that serve the precise drink that the OP is after. If he doesn't ask, he will never know.

And if that is what will make his holiday perfect, then I can't see what the problem is. It was the use of the rolling eyes smilie which exacerbates your rudeness. AND your stupid user name.

I didn't say I was perfect nor did I mention being God Damned!. I am allowed an opinion/observation just as much as you are! Just because you don't agree with what I say does not make me rude. What a good idea - unfortunately some people find that lager type beers are too acidic and too fizzy - I quite like superbok, but although refreshing at first on a hot day, there is actually little taste and when it does get slightly warm, it loses appeal. A good real ale (yep spoge, bathams, enville, Wye valley, wyre Piddle, Hobsons, pedigree etc etc.) would make a nice change in CVO.

Stupid comments that we shouldnt drink or eat something as its not local are fatuous and unintelligent to say the least.

Scoge - I appreciate your predicament being an ale lover myself. I am planning to start up a micro brewery in the Carvoeiro area as a retirement project in a couple of years time. The aim is to produce a small amount of a couple of good ales for sale to local pubs and/or privately (and for my own consumption obviously!). This doesn't help you today however. John Smiths is sold draught at The Irish Times - OK for an occasional change but I find it too sweet and metallic tasting for more than a pint or two. I find a reasonable compromise is to order a black-and-tan: half Guiness mixed with half lager. It is not quite as over-powering as Guiness on its own but has a reasonably bitter-like taste. Alternatively the poor-man's-black-velvet: half Guiness and half cider, although this can be a bit sweet depending on the type of cider available.
