Real Ale in CVO?

I love a pint of real ale myself - and always willing to try different ones. However, in hot countries "real ale" would be a disaster.

I always try the beer the locals drink - and try the food the locals would eat - that's why I go abroad (and I know each to their own and I'm not critising). I can get real ale (which doesn't include muck like John Smiths - yuk!!), Guiness, Indian and Chinese food etc in the UK so don't want them when i'm on holiday. Mind you, the first pint of Ringwood best when I get back is always extra special

The first thing I do when I get back to Swanage is down a pint of Timothy Taylors . Im not sure but I think you can buy some bottled foriegn beers which may tickle your fancy in some of the supermarkets.

HR - Brewerks in Singapore has a great range of draught real ales brewed on the premesis They taste fantastic when sat out on their terrace in a steady 30 C ambient temperature. And the local Singaporeans and Chinese love them!

I too have kind of gone off superbock. i say 'kind of' because i will still have it now and again but sagres is now more to my liking. black stove have a decent pint of guinness and intermarche sell old speckled hen in bottles. magners very cold with ice is hard to beat on a sunny terrace.

That said I went in Cheers bar on the in road and gotta say I had the best pint of lager I have had for many a year...and guess what it turned out it was imported I think from Austria or Switzerland...it is well worth a try for you lager lovers...they also had Fondues and Rostis being served...different!!

popped into this bar when I was out on my own in january (just checking over the apt etc) for a few days and it was one of the few open. very friendly customers and bar lady all chatting away and next thing I was invited into their company. they informed me it's a German bar, so that might explain the different choice. Think they did have Tagus.

Unfortunately, Mike Hunt (great name - though parents sense of humour has skipped a generation) and Bruce Wallis (nearly famous) have missed the point.

CHOICE.

Of course when I come to CVO I love the local cuisine - The Indian, The Chinese, The Thai and the Pizza place ...mmmm! (only joking lads).

Rampage mate - you and me have got to go into business we will clean up. In the UK there has been a huge growth in micro breweries producing some super ales supplying local pubs for customers CHOICE. They brew dark ales, blonde ales, winter ales, light summer beers, even lager type beers with the one thing that the beers in Spain/Portugal lack in my opinion (and I am entitled to it) - taste.

Obviously real ale doesn't travel well so I am sure if a small craft brewery in the Algarve could produce a range of cask conditioned beers, suitable for chilling in kegs, or bottled supplying the bars to give their customers a CHOICE that would be good for everyone. Nobody is saying you can't have your pint of extract of knat should you so wish but we have all got different tastes.

I choose to come to CVO for my hols and honour you with my presence and some of you think I shouldn't have desires ...oooh missus!
I find it fascinating that many ex pats deride all things from their homeland, but will still watch UK telly, read UK newspapers and conduct this forum in English. Hypocritical? naah.
