buying this flat

Looking forward to hearing what you come back with. I wouldn't have thought it would be the end of the world if something is a bit rough, I am sure that amongst us we have some skilled craftsmen and women - a sort of working party posse could descend on Carvoeiro.
Jo, it does say in my bio that I am into travel everywhere. Holidays are our thing and as we both work and put in long hours we look foward to getting away and spending quality time with our children in a way that we don't seem to be able to do on a day to day basis. We try to go away four or five times a year and that means we get to see a number of places. However, there are only two places that we have ever been to more than once and that is Carvoeiro (first visited in 1990) and a place called Sivota on the greek mainland.

It is for sale and I know the owner. I will find out price for you. The other derelict bits up behind it and to the right - sort of behind JG travel are also for sale.
Steens comments are worth considering though and just doing the place up would be expensive.

I agree that the situation is rather "full on" and there is no access to a pool; and I guess that is why they wouldn't make good rental properties in the usual sense of the word - however for people who know Carvoeiro, they must know what they are letting themselves in for.
I wouldn't want to live there, right on the square, motorbikes revving, holidaymakers enjoying themselves loudly at midnight, when you have to go to work in the morning or are trying to study an important new piece of info, etc,. But when I am in Carvoeiro I am the person enjoying myself loudly at midnight.

So Maddi is the one that keeps me up at night! Let me know when your next visit is and I'll move to the Alentejo for a fortnight!
Maddi - I'm with you in the square at midnight (or later!) depending on whether I'm still in the jailhouse!! 
I'm very disappointed that you're not a dot.com millionaire - I would have liked to say I know one!! 
I'm with you about being mad about holidays - I go away as often as health, good accomodation rates and cheap or free flights allow!! That is after I've paid out for my student daughter's rent!! We tend to do the long weekend visits these days and go to our caravan in Devon peak times.
Carvoeiro (and Portugal generally) is the only place we go to again and again (except Devon that is!). We are though going to Crete in Oct with about 30+ friends! We normally do Portugal, so this is a real change for all of us! Not looking forward to the long flight though!

Exchanging views, tips etc with people with whom you share a common measurement e.g. "steeper than cardiac hill"
I have been to Crete but only Rethmynon and the islands' tourist must see spots.
Anyway if you want to pick up on it perhaps our place for listings our areas of knowledge and then picking each others brains will be open to us soon. Mads

The agents are sunny homes and I believe they have a website... sunnyhomes@pt.com.
I had a look - it really is just a shell - i.e. no floor, no ceiling just four walls three windows (gaping holes) at front, two skylights in roof, two door openings at side and no interior walls, plumbing or other basics whatsoever.
Only access up narrow steep staircase.

Madd...If I may deviate from the topic at hand and ask you a bit about
Sivota in Greece. Of all your traveling, you said that other the Carvoeiro,
Sivota was the only place you have ever gone to more than once.

many thanks for your efforts on this.If the price reflects the state of the building then it may still be a runner.The flat(for want of a better word) must at least be waterproof or the guys below would suffer.I,m more concerened about tapping into services ie water,sewerage,etc.Look i,ll leave it at that till we get a price,in fairness at this stage its still only a conversation piece.sorry about the colour i was just mad to try it out.
