PASSPORT VALIDITY

WE ARE TRAVELLING TO CARVOEIRO THIS WEEK (HOPEFULLY) AND HAVE JUST GOT OUR TRAVEL DETAILS FROM OUR VILLA COMPANY. THEY STATE THAT OUR PASSPORTS MUST BE IN DATE 3 MONTHS AFTER OUR RETURN. ONE OF OURS ISN'T - IT EXPIRES ON 28TH JULY 2003. CAN ANYONE CONFIRM THIS? WE HAVE MADE AN APPOINTMENT TOMORROW AT THE PASSPORT AGENCY - BUT THIS INVOLVES A 500 MILE ROUND TRIP (THEY ADVISED US TO RING THE EMBASSY, BUT I CAN'T GET THROUGH!)

i dont know the legal position on this , but
last year we travelled into faro 2nd week in june. we only
realised at the airport that my wife`s passport expired on 18th july.
they did inspect her passport but made no comment.....

I have heard they are taking their time at the passport control these last few weeks. You may not be that lucky anymore.

If you loose your passport while in transit, the local consulate in Faro can issue temporary papers for the duration of your stay.

Thank you both for your help - we'll go to the passport office tomorrow
and renew it - best not risk it!

I had heard it was six months - but don't panic. As I had to check because two of our family's passports expired before the six months. However, I found out that so long as your passport is valid for the length of your stay in the country - shouldn't be a problem.

I'm pretty sure it's 6 months too. I've just renewed mine as i realised I would be needing it a couple of times within the limit.Better to be safe than sorry - you never know these days!
