Re: Jailhouse bar
There are a few " blue bars "where smoking is permitted m Sullys, Mungos etc.
Fortunatley Talvez is smoke free.

I wouldn't touch Sullys with a barge pole. Try Inside or Havana (non-smoking) for cocktails, Carvoeiro Bar or Boavida for people-watching, Brady's/Black Stove for live music, Round-up for karaoke and Mungos for a livelier scene (popular with young locals aswell). Taste restaurant is also great on Thursdays with live music, the open-air bar downstairs is a lovely setting.
Re: Jailhouse bar
Jailhouse bar at night during September will be fine, not too many people and even at the weekends that time of the year it is not overly busy. Great fun, good for a drink and chattting to friends, music pretty good and may be even better dependant on who joins in to play the music.

Sounds like ill be giving sullys a miss then lol. ive already been to havana, liked it there. Saw black stove but never went in it. Where is the carvoeiro bar and boavida? Also wheres taste restaurant? Im going to go a walk around as soon as im there and find everything lol, things have probably changed since i was there in 2009
Re: Jailhouse bar
might be the odd one out here but I have actually had a pint of the black stuff in sullys and it was ok. it was in march and place was empty. also had a gin and tonic in it and they certainly didnt skimp on the gin.
the music played in it is very very loud for the size of the place, and a lot of the customers drink on the street in front of it. from what I observed in june last it was mostly young(ish) portuguese who were the main customers.

Round-up is a great bar for a laugh - watching and listening people do the karaoke, some do it well, others not so well! I've always resisted the temptation myself...ditzy wrote:I wouldn't touch Sullys with a barge pole. That has the makings of a good night Stacey, a nice meal and a bit of craic with Libbre in Happy’s, then upstairs to the Round-up with Big Will for a few drinks – you can’t beat it. (don’t forget to book Happy’s)

Good to hear, no doubt he'll be well enough to give me another clip round the ear when I think it's a good idea to exit the bar onto the street via the open window (right next to where he stands outside), not a good move!ron5000 wrote:Had a coffee with him this morning, looked ok to me

Round-Up is just above Happy's, normally has Big Will standing outside wearing clogs and chattering with the masses.
