Fire?

Ellie,

All is very well. We have found a really good builder who we have every confidence in and the renovation will start soon and be completed next spring which means a) goodbye caravan and b) a massive shopping trip to IKEA in Lisbon. It's huge, much bigger than the London ones I've been to. And you can get meatballs!

Glad all is going well for you and family..you certainly deserve it and I wish all the best for next spring (remember our year of caravan life..then how wonderful it was to move into a real house once more!)
Whats this about firemens uniforms??
Well.I was quite close to one once (you could say).

..
but that style would possibly be a bit out of date now !
I was simply asking if things had improved at all regarding better uniforms for the Portuguese firemen...
Course you know now youve got me very curious (and also a certain little friend of mine (T)

p.s crikey..I know you can buy 'flatpacks' of most things at IKEAS..but MEATBALLS

..my mind boggles
and yes ..I do know that our Lifeboat service is self supporting and that they raise their own funds.
In fact..Im sure the fabric of caring services & societies would breakdown in UK if it wasnt for the voluntary work and sacrifice of the few for the many..

Peter, nice to hear that things are finally moving!
Ellie, I can't believe that a woman of your culinary prowess, hasn't heard of Ikea's Meatballs!. They are certainly worth a trip to Lisbon or Seville
(which is nearer?) Cheaper than anything O'Patio might serve you, but knowing you you'll probably come up with an exotic sauce to smother them in, Rasperry, Curry, Cheese, nothing would surprise me!

Our Swedish friend Karin who lives near our house in Portugal reckons she will have to go to Ikea at least twice a year for pickled herrings. Takes all sorts.

Ikea have run out of catalogues, the new one will be out in September I expect. The stuff is just the same as in London, and as far as I could tell, the prices are the same too.

Karin tells me that the Ikea names are actually perfectly sensible in Swedish, just hilarious in English.

Weather at Faro at 10.00 was 70 degrees and foggy, lets hope thats the same in Carvoeiro and not smoke. Probably burn off by 11.00

Can anybody gives us an update on the fire situation?

We have friends who live in the hills below Loule' who say that for two days the sun was completely obliterated by the smoke from fires in the distance. Luckily they have a good vantage position and are able to keep an eye on progess of the fires.

Last night I ame back from a whisle stop visit to Portugal in search of a house in the Loule district. Most of the appointments that I have made had to be cancelled due to proximity of the fire. It is very sad and worrying for the people of the area particularly the residents of Alportel. Friday was very bad with ash raining down in the Loule hills and a thick black fog in the area.

However yesterday did seem a little better with the smoke starting to lift and clear the air. Lets all hope that it is brought under control asap, however it is a constant and on going worry for the residents of the Serras of the northern Algarve.
