We came back to the UK last weekend & all the signs & gantries are there but the prices are covered up which is the same as our last visit in April.
We went East & the motorway was really quiet which is great but once the tolls go on I can see it being empty. Like so many people have said I've got no problem with paying but don't want the hassle of having to get a box etc & pay when we get back to the airport.
On a slightly different note Faro airport is undergoing car park extensions & it was a bit of a hunt to find P4! Driving back to it was even harder with confused people all over the place & a motorhome trying to back out once he'd gone to the wrong barrier with about 10 cars behind him! I'm glad we left plenty of time before our flight.

Perhaps someone can post instructions on getting to P4?

Given the massive building works going on, I fear its changing all the time.
I'll be at the airport on Thursday so may be able to give you this week's version if that is useful ?

Yippee! We missed the tolls.
Came home on Saturday (17th) after two weeks stay and never really thought they would be in operation before we left. The guys at the car rental company had no idea when it would begin or how their company's payment of the tolls would be implemented. The fact that they not yet received any notification whatsoever suggested to me that it wasn't imminent!
Stayed on the outskirts of Albufeira this time, and on Sunday 11th there was a very long procession of big trucks and coaches travelling slowly along the major roads with police escorts, loudly blasting their horns in protest at the proposed tolls.
Can't see it not happening though, after all the work they've done erecting all those gantries and sensor equipment.

Arrived this evening. A22 extremely quiet, tolls still not working and car rental people still have no idea of what's happening!

To get to P4 from the terminal building you have to walk through P2 since P1 is a building site surrounded by temporary boarding. Driving out of P4 onto the dual carriageway towards the A22 was a doddle but no doubt there will be changes :)

The good news is that it is very warm - 26 degrees at Faro at 8 pm and feels the same now at midnight - and the forecast is for wall to wall sunshine :D

Back for a few days, ask our hire car rep any news on the tolls, usual shrug of the shoulders.
Actually saw sighs regarding returning cars to Car Park 4 which were not there last week.
On drive from airport to CVO there were a few drops of rain, but clear now, Very humid.

What is it about Thursdays? We had a fantastic fortnight - temps. between 26c and 32c and wall to wall sushine every day, except for our second Thursday (15th). It was dull and overcast all morning and on our way to visit Olhao via the A22, there were a few spots of rain. Happily by the time we were having some lunch there, at around 2-0 p.m. it began to brighten up and it was soon business as usual as the blue skies returned. Marvellous!

Back on the subject of Tolls, has anyone noticed that there are gantries on alternate stretches.

Going West to East you can miss all the tolls if you go on at 8 off at 9, on at 10 off at 11 etc.
OR
From Faro, on at 12 off at 11, on at 10 off at 9, on at 8, off at 7

Whether its faster than the 125 all the way, I cannot be bothered to test
