If you want a special seat on the plane then you have the opportunity to pay in advance. So it means goodbye to priority boarding at £5 or whatever it is, and probably £5 or more to book in advance for a special allocated seat.

I would have thought just rushing in and grabbing a seat would be quicker in the turnaround slots for the plane?

Carolyn McCall was interviewed on radio this morning and with that cut-class accent ,she was the ultimate professional in answering(or perhaps avoiding) questions about the difficulty the airline has with Stelios. The airline recruited a very good CEO.

Ryanair sell the first two rows and rows 16 and 17 from dublin now on a few routes @ €10 extra per seat. Don't see how selling the first two rows tallies with their policy of 'blocking' rows at the front of the aircraft (we have all witnessed this practice)

I understand that the C.of G. of a 737-800 is approximately through row 6. Therefore when the aircraft is less than full rows 3,4 and sometimes 5 are left empty to avoid having too much weight forward.
It does not happen with other versions of the 737 because they are not so long - the main 737-800 fuselage extension being forward of the wings.

so if the aircraft isn't full, and they have sold seats in rows 1 & 2 they will keep passengers out of all seats up to row 6.

have seen them stuff cabin bags into those empty seats, (minimum weight) so put so good use.

EJ use airbuses and the only time I have seen seats blocked off was a half full flight back to the UK and that was only during intial boarding. Once the required passenger density was reached in the required areas the seats were released.

Aer Lingus use airbus as well but they allocate seats so they can distribute the weight accordingly. you are allowed to change your seat on line (free)up to 4 hours before the flight but they will have knowledge of this before allocating seats at the airport.

Originally I thought it odd that Ryanair were blocking the front rows but are willing to sell rows 1 & 2 for extra revenue but Roy explained it pretty well. they still have plenty of leeway up to row 6 on aircraft which are not full.

If ever I am on those Avro/BAE 146 planes if the number of passengers on that flight is very low then we all sit in the middle section of the plane of which I strongly suspect is to do with the damn thing being able to take off.

When Ryanair was establishing itself in the early days of the 1980s at Luton, there was another airline that offered cheap fights to Dublin and UK domestic flights amd they were called Capital Airways They had very good fares then (£25 single) but then stopped immediately operations overnight. A few other airlines in the 1990s were trying to get into the act. I can recall one company was called Debonair with its larger-than-life chairman - a chap called Franco. His face was on every advert in the press.

Unlless it is a genius plot to put the wind-up Easyjet, Stelios is planning a a new rival to Easyjet and that is Fastjet.

and it's not just Ryan Air - the others are trying it too.

I'm sure these incentives also work on excess hold luggage - I'm sure that was the case on a Monarch flight I took out of Faro last year when I and most other passengers were done for excess weight despite us all arguing that the same bags had been underweight on the outward flight from Gatwick! Greedy barstewards.

One of the Pension funds that is a significant shareholder in EJ in an interview at the weekend said that they would if it came to a vote support the existing management against Stelios.
The economic state of the world is against the launch of another airline ( one failed in India , a boom economy ) this week.

Maybe Fastjet was just a tactic in the Stelios /EJ arguement.

it's not unlike the offside rule in football, play by the rules and you are not offside, if you are borderline then you are at risk of over zealous airport staff (or referees assistants ) I have witnessed Ryanair charging for overweight bags in Rome (4 kgs over) and the passangers had plenty of time to redistribute the weight with other family members or take out clothing and wear it but chose to do so and spent the next 10 mins arguing with the check in staff (we were next in line so heard it all )

Fly Ryanair - stick to the rules. Simples
