arrived yesterday. At the airport now after going through the baggage reclaim area you walk to the very end of the terminal, and cross over the road, along a 'makeshift' pathway till you are abour 1/2 back, then crossover the road again, walk to the very end of the terminal, cross both roads and P4 is there, right on the roundabout.

was informed by renting company that even if I wanted to I could not pay the toll for the return journey as the system would not allow it. Company are going to retain credit card impress and will debit the amount they are charged, stated that I would receive an email detailing the amount and that the time the car was returned through the barrier at the airport would be the end of liability period for tolls. didn't state how much they are going to charge for this service and I forgot to ask. He said they woud then destroy the cc impress docket. As I have often just posted the keys into a van at the airport I am not to bothered about this last bit.

there was very few cars on the motorway yesterday and only 1 truck, Spanish and returning to Spain. Have to say the 125 was also not busy from Alcantarilha either, which I didn't expect, but it was well off peak time (3pm) when I entered the 125.

Are they charging for the return journey only or for all journeys you have made during your rental period.

Using Drive 4 Fun we were advised to pay at the PO within 5 days. Contrary to what I said on other topic Faro to Alcantrilha is 3-26 at the Post Office.

Did they give you a break down of each toll section. From the map it looks like it should be 2.95.

I was told I can prepay return to faro. If I don't I will charged too and admin and fine on my credit cardm

It is indeed 2.95 but they charge you extra for post-payment.

Apparently as posted on expatsfocus, the arrangements for hre cars changes on the 1st Jan and then again in the summer.

Confused !!! we will find out ourselves next week.

"Details of all journeys made by vehicles without an identifying electronic device will be sent to the post office for payment, which, if not paid on time, will be subject to a fine. Under the new laws, the fine will be ten times the toll value and not less than €25. "

The Portugal News online are reporting that there have been a wave of number plate thefts since the tolls started on the A22. Anyone finding they have lost a registration plate should advise the police immediately or someone else may be running up a toll bill in their name.

We just got back after a short trip. Because of the confusion and the fact that it is so quiet I just used the N125 for the trip from and to the airport. There were no hold ups at all. it was less boring than the motorway and added less than 15 minutes each way. I would guess that it would have taken longer to go to the Post Office, queue up and pay and this way there was no hastle.

Once the system is sorted out then I will happily pay the tolls but in the meantime I'll use the N125.

After reading MC's I stuck my head into the post office in CVO on Thursday morning but there was a queue so I didn't wait.
left the car back at the airport yesterday and the girl who was taking the car back just said that for the moment they would debit my credit card for any journeys taken on the motorway. I will report in due course but as of now nothing on my card for either journey, I have no reason to think they will be anything by honest on this but will shortly find out.

Regardings MC's post, I really cannot see any justification for charging extra for making the actual payment within the time allowed (5 days?). Should the toll company not have factored in every cost (ie the post office charge) before settling on the amount per KM?

For what's it worth there was a GNR car at EVERY gantry I passed on the way to the airport yesterday, pulled into the hard sholder and right under the gantry.

Actually what is happening is that all the cameras in the gantries have failed, so the GNR are hastily writing down the number plates of all the cars, then typing them into their iPads.
