They are all pretty much the same. the phone shop in intermarche is as good as anywhere and the staff are efficient and informative.

Do you know what the rough costs are for

- the dongle - is there a charge for this
- whats the useage/topup charge
- are there any data limits

any info appreciated as we have a quote to fit permanent wifi and this may well be a better option

If you plan to stay for any lengthy peiod of time a dongle is not the best option.
We now internet have as part of our cable package and it is certainly costs less than the Vodaphone dongle which we had on a monthly contract.

We go down to Hemmingways, buy a beer and use their hotspot. As you know, accessing emails etc. takes longer than you'd think and it usually requires at least one extra beer.

We do 6 - 8 weeks a year but the place is rented for at least 9 months solid so would be high use...we have an offer of 30euros a month for wifi and a decent bandwidth - which is nothing in the scheme of things, I was curious to see what dongles were costing as they are mobile - cant use cable as its from the UK

Im not sure it is our management guys who have found it...it looks like a one off charge for the equipment (thats ok) then 30 euros per month for 15Mb/sec sounds like its via a SIM card (again thats ok if there are no limits on useage) 10 metre range (again fine)...I am in the process of finding out the full details so will post once I know the score...does 30Euro compare favourbaly? :D

For the amount of use you will get out of it :Yes.

I go out about 6 times a year, 2 weeks at a time the max at present. I got a dongle in the Vodafone shop in Guia. €30 to purchase (included a 'free' top up) and €10 min top up after that. the €10 top up gives 10 hours (in 5 minute segements) and has to be topped up every 180 days or it expires. I might just be lucky but once connected the speed is not at all bad, Easiest place to top up is in Intermarche, just give them the little red card and they top up in seconds. But I am a relatively light user, (not on facebook and never will be :) ) and it would not replace a proper internet service. As far as I know the Portuguese dongle works in Spain, but as I have not yet tried it cannot say for sure.

The Portuguese dongle works in the UK and Sweden as well but the roaming costs are frightening.
I still have it as a PAYG back up but the limits are reached very quickly for other than just checking emails etc
10 E top up only lasted a couple of days.

Sue...I cant see any hotspots in CVo certainly plenty in Ferragudo and Lagoa....that would be the perfect concept - take your internet with you :D

Where are you seeing the Cvo hotspots?

jamie
yes you are right. when I first registered I found quite a few around rocha brava which is where I wanted them
but they seem to have vanished, so will have to keep going to Helder's unless they reappear
