Tyres

Post by DaveK »

Had a pleasant drive over to the West coast today and whilst re-visiting a rough cliff top road this rock seemed to jump out under the nearside front wheel. Result, a 3cm gash in the sidewall so obviously a new tyre is needed. Any suggestions for tyre fitters in the area. The vehicle is a hire car and I have insurance for such items so cost is not necessarily a prime consideration. Thanks.

First thing ring the hire company, they may have their own contacts for such things . plus if you fit your own tyre there may be contractual issues that negate your insurance.

And don't tell them about the off-road stuff. You were driving along a tarred road.

Not really off-road. It was tarred in parts! Spoke to the hire company and they advised to repair or replace the tyre locally and they will check if OK on return. Checked the small print on the additional insurance that covers such situations and all should be OK if all paperwork is produced. Thanks.

Thanks for that. I did remember about the one at Portimao shopping suddenly last night. However, I will pop down to Lagoa today and try them.

Economy Car Hire insurance underwriters have just e-mailed to say claim is met and payment on its way. Had a few doubts as the invoice for the new tyre did not quote the car registration number. Could have been a excuse not to pay out. Also exchange rate was about spot on!

If you are looking for large, or unusual tyres, I suggest you have a look on line.

I used http://www.pneucity.com/ Tyres were delivered from Germany within 48 hours. I had them fitted and balanced at First Stop for I think 12 euros per tyre, and saved myself a fortune
