O Canto, a new gem in Ferragudo

Post by e-richard »

Very new restaurant in the back alleys of Ferragudo. Dutch owned, run and influenced, the decor is elegant browns and the modern, comfortable tables and chairs are very nicely spaced out.
We fortunately booked a table as they were turning away all newcomers. This was a Sunday night in the second week of September !

We had the Tapas for 2 starter with cheeses from Holland, Azores and Monchique, olives, chorizo and hams with fresh hot bread and various Mediterranean dips (all gorgeous).
Fairly short menu with a couple of inventive and tasty vegetarian options. A variety of meat courses, but I tried the nightly special of "Sole Roll", being fresh Sole stuffed with spinach and crayfish. Sole is not really my favourite fish, but the net result with a white sauce was a meal to remember. It all came accompanied by small dishes of fresh vegetables that one could actually taste - not over boiled and gently seasoned.

The portions were adequately small, house wine superb, and the bill was a pleasant surprise.

In summary, I'd suggest that Ele & Ela have something to worry about !

Location and phone number of O Canto added tothe Restaurant Map. Ensure you book before heading out there.

Hi Richard

Is that the one just past the italian, before the exit to the passage way where the vets is?

Sorry, Tricky, I don't know where the Vet is, nor the Italian

However, if you click the restaurant map link in my post above, you'll see that its pre-zoomed in to show exactly where the restaurant is in Rua Vasco da Gama.

I guess we each have our own ways of finding these places :?

That's the one tricky.

It was closed when I walked past, is it only open for dinner?

Why is the menu in Latin? It is a long time since I was at school.

As it says the website is under construction, I would say it is a clever person who is doing it :o

Translated:-

Or rather it's the default content until the website is edited!
