Just tried Hola Unblocker and it does indeed work. I was able to watch live BBC and ITV and also catch up TV after downloading the software.

A quick Google search came up with this:

There appear to be two components available, a browser plugin that just does unblocking (so they say) and a windows installer which incorporates the P2P system.
The P2P part, at least, is likely to be subject to abuse in the form of copyright infringements and people downloading worse material, which may pass across a participating system without the owner even knowing it.
I was only recently reading about a fellow being prosecuted for explotation material being relayed through the TOR exit node he ran. I would have thought this system poses a similar risk.

At least with someone choosing to host a TOR exit node, they have to make a conscious decision to take such risks. Hola is not informing anyone (that I can see) of such risks and no doubt a bunch of people will install it without the faintest idea what could happen.
As a P2P system it may also consume bandwidth / data allowance at an unknown rate.
The final concern is that who knows who these guys are and whether the app is clean of malware.
They make grandiose statements in their FAQ about how they are essentially remaking the internet, which are sufficiently amateurish to make me think they won't be around long.

Yes we use Expat shield.....and it works....the problem is that Broadband downloads are so slow around here that you constantly wait for download. (We use cabo-visaou)pouty wrote:Try Expat Shield, this does unblock iplayer. I use it !!

Bruce have you tried saving rather than watching live. How long would it take to download a 1hr prog.?
