loving the algarve

been going there for many years and my family 14, 11, 9, love it too so we are looking for home and business .we will be starting a new venture in the ferragudo area and wish to read any ideas or comments any of u have to give or say. i have seen something similar on a different section of this website, not very helpful.i do promise u a good party so log on and give yr opinion, surely we can share the good things in life

Hi el…that’s interesting….firstly you ought to register…[for what its worth] you have more cred when we know where you’re from what you do etc.

I used to dream about running a little business in Algarve, an eatery [oh no not another!] yes, but with a difference. I no longer have any ambition to do this, but I still believe my idea is a good one.
When living in London we holidayed in Algarve 2 or 3 times a year – this is going back to the early 80s – and of course we used to love all the eating & drinking involved. But sometimes we could see there was something missing: we could go to a top restaurant or a tasca for a served meal, or to a café for a beer and sandwich: cheese or ham or cheese & ham [both the cheese and the ham being cheap and near tasteless: a shame because there are many interesting cheeses and traditional cooked meats to be found in Portugal].
Yes, what’s lacking is a decent sandwich bar with a creative range of freshly cut sarnies made with quality ingredient and served with imagination and pride.
Duck pate lettuce & tomato, cream cheese & pineapple with lettuce, smoked salmon & rocket, egg mayo lettuce & parma ham, salmon pate & cucumber, etc etc…. and not forgetting the old BLT….and with a choice interesting breads……………..a gold mine?………maybe not…..but what do you expect?

Amen to that but i think the problem is more the bread then the fillings....i will eat and enjoy anything from a silage sambo to a pigs foot but i stiil haven,t found a bread yet that i would rave about over there

Hey digger, same wavelength, that is exactly what I have been saying, cvo so needs a good sandwich bar with good fresh produce and maybe a jiuce bar aswell. Have been thinking about it myself, but due to commitments in UK can't begin to think about starting anything for another two years. By which time someone else would have got there first!

Snap. I was thinking of trying to open a juice bar. Have done a bit of research and it's just basically finding a good location for it.

Fingers crossed it might work in the long run!

Love everybody's idea of a good sandwich bar and a juicery(!)
but please can you incorporate a great deli and bakery as well. I know the supermarkets stock regional produce but I do prefer to buy my cheeses, cooked meats and bread from local shops. There may be such shops already in CVO but if there is, I've been looking in the wrong places!

Have to agree with Gerry tho....you really do have to have decent VERY FRESH white bread to make a wholesome tasty sarnie! and Ive yet to find in all the years Ive been coming here..a really good loaf!
I end up buying integral/wholemeal..or cereal bread..and thats mainly for my morning toast!

yes Elllie, I agree that cereal sliced bread (what we call Government Bread in South Africa) is great - it also lasts about two weeks here!!

I love that bread too and noticed it doesnt seem to go mouldy - is there some special added ingredient ie. chemicals
