Walks in January & February 2014

Post by Geoff »

Hi all

Yes, it's early days , but it might be useful to give the planned dates for the January & February walks.

Everyone welcome!

These start at 1000 and last about 2 to 2.5 hours , every monday from January 6 through to 24 February , with perhaps the last one on Thursday 27 February.

We usually end up at a local cafe for a coffee or beer.

We now have a repertoire of over a dozen regular walks, graded hard, medium and easy : we can try and match these walks with people's abilities/preferences and whether they have done some walks before, if you can let us know below if you can attend.
Otherwise , we will publish details of locations nearer the time.

We could adjust the days if there is sufficient demand....such as an extra walk on a saturday.

No charge, of course.

Weather permitting...ring 282 380015 before 0900 on day if unsure!

Please remember that all walks are undertaken at your own risk.

Please indicate if/when you are able to come.

Hi Geoff,
Jim and I, plus our friends David and Diane will be out again over New Year for a week so look forward to joining up with you for a walk at some point then. Having recently discovered the wonderful Gralha restaurant up beyond the reservoir towards Messines I wondered if there was a walk round there that we could do that ended up in the restaurant for lunch?!! This is when you wish the Portuguese had the equivalent of OS footpath maps!

Hi Aison
Long time no see : be great to meet up again.

Actually, we do have a walk starting from O Gralha....called the Vale de Fuzeiros....lovely walk, some old Menhirs & some ancient tombs on the way....and quite a few steep scree slopes! About 7.5kms. It's actually very well way-marked and is in the Silves walking guide!

We usually walk on a monday, but O Gralha is closed then so we use the other cafe/restaurant in the village....but whilst we have had many a drink at O Gralha, have never eaten there, but have heard good reports and it always looks well supported, so perhaps we should try it...it's a bit far to go in the evening. Mike & Su usually come walking with us and they are " lunch" people, so would like it too.

We arrive Friday 3 Jan : when do you go back?......could do saturday 4, possibly tuesday 7 Jan or thursday 9 Jan.

One other thought : will the restaurant be open in early Jan?.......we are out there in November and will check, though last time we visited, no one spoke a word of English, so that might be fun!

Saturday the 4th it is then, weather permitting, as we go home on the 5th.
Look forward to catching up then and meeting anyone else that wants to come and join us.

The very friendly waitress spoke enough English to tell us all about the restaurant the last time we were there and the boss also seemed to speak some English so look forward to hearing what you manage to find about about their opening times over the Christmas new year period.

Hi Alison...my spies report :

" O Gralha is open on a Saturday, no need to book unless you think there might be more than 10 people eating, in which case they would appreciate it if you booked first. Helen suggested you could do this at the beginning of your walk if it looks as if a lot of walkers will be eating afterwards. O Grealha tel. no.s 282332103. 939577795 or 968842586"

So reckon we are "on" for sat 4 Jan then!
