crime negligable (i think falcon said this) ...i think you had better look back to the item "best thieves in the world" and "another day another robbery"

i am afraid there is lot of crime here!!!!

Well I am not sure if you have been living here for over 3 1/2 years, guest ... but believe me, crime is a topic of many a dinner party conversation in South Africa and that ain't so here. I have never actually met a person living in the Algarve who was complaining that they were robbed, raped or highjacked. I know that there is crime here but when I arrived, Canada and Portugal were voted the safest places in the world to live.

Unfortunately the world does not behave as is stated by a few posters on Carvoeiro.com... (as much as I love Carvoeiro.com

yes i have lived here for 14 years and been robbed 4 times...along our track every house has also been robbed 3 or 4 times....sorry crime is very present here..if not why do most houses have Prosecom stickers or burglar bars???'

We have only been living here a couple of years, and no house break in so far. Perhaps its because we have a dog. She is friendly as can be with firends, but if a stranger turns up he or she has to be pretty confident with dogs to approach her. Plus all our neighbbours who are Portuguese have dogsa too. Anybody looking slightly suspsicious gets the full canine chorus. Woof woof.

it could be the story of the european meeting an algarvean fisherman.

Break-ins, opportunist youngsters who go around looking for careless people who leave a door or window ajar or who leave cash and valuables in plain sight. If they are seen, they run.
If they force entry, everything but cash is covered by the insurance.

I can still walk down the streets of my town at night without getting hassle.

careless people who leave valuables around...i dont think so...aparthotel complex in alvor got broken into recently...they prized with crowbars the safes bolted to the floors and robbed 4 apartments stealing 16 pasports along with many other things.....hardly "opportunist"
