Sofas

Post by Geoff »

Hi all....we are weighing up the pros & cons of buying in the UK & shipping to Portugal vs buying locally.....not that there was much choice, last time we looked. Anyone done this?
Also, anyone know the name of that furniture shop in Silves that is on both sides of a narrow street.......carry on up the road past the prison to get there.

Hi, we have moved furniture out using Direct Transport in Porches and they did a great job, twice, for us. We are also looking at buying a 3 piece set here in the UK in the sales and transporting it out, mainly for the choice. :)

Hi Geoff. One option, is to buy from DFS as they deliver to Portugal http://www.dfs.co.uk/content/delivery/results .

Thanks Ken....will have a look at DFS....their charge for delivering a 3 seater & a 2 seater to Portugal is £200......compared to about £360 elsewhere, at the moment....DFS always seem to have a sale on, so will see what they have!....at moment, been looking at M&S which have 30% off for present.
When you out next, for a walk?

We travel out on Monday and return on 6th November, just before your first walk. Hopefully we'll catch up with you in the New Year.

I spent ages last year trying to source a nice sofa in Portugal, gave up, bought one in the UK for half the price and shipped using Algarve Removals, very happy with the service and price

Don't forget that you can buy from Ikea and they have a delivery service in Portugal.

Interesting idea.....this presumably means ordering from the Portuguese website, which looks the same as the UK one but in Portuguese , so would be a bit anxious about doing that corectly!...looks like a lot of self-assembly too!

The UK IKEA would deliver to a shipping agent, much as DFS/M&S do.

Do you know where IKEA are in Portugal please?

Ikea is in Lisbon. 276km from Carvoeiro to the store and will take 2.5 hours - https://maps.google.com/maps?saddr=Carv ... mra=ls&z=9

You can actually go to an Ikea in Spain in less time - https://maps.google.com/maps?saddr=Carv ... mra=ls&z=8

imo I'd go to Seville for the day and do your Ikea shopping after a nice day out - the Spanish ikea was cheaper than the Portuguese one the last I checked also :D

Buying in UK and shipping to PT is definitely the best for both choice and price option. I would check with Algarve removals re price - you can ship it direct to them in Chelmsford and they handle it all, usually at a lower rate. I believe normal is £125 + vat/ M3

So far, for a 2 seater & a 3 seater sofa , all incl VAT or IVA:
Algarve Removals......£357
Algarve Freight.........£354
Porches Direct Transport.....394-430€
DFS.......................£200

......the 30% off offer from M&S would pay for the removal.....bit wary of DFS as they seem to always have " half price sales"!

We purchased from Frank Knighton of Derby and Nottingham . We bought Lazy Boy recliners from them after finding them on the internet. We saved over a thousand pounds buying from them instead of the large national companies which are forever advertising SALES on TV. They delivered direct to Algarve Removals who brought them out to us at a cost of about £350. For a large 3 seater, a large two seater and a large chair. Service from both companies was excellent
