Restaurant Lamin
Went to restaurant Lamin in Lagoa at lunchtime, it was extremely good, typical portuguese food, fresh fish, plenty of fresh vegetables and very good boiled potatoes. Manager Paulo was very friendly and informative. Excellent service.

Re: Restaurant Lamin
The waxy, yellow coloured boiled potatoes they often serve in Portugal are fantastic. Have never seen them in UK. Haven' t had any this trip, sorry to say.
Re: Restaurant Lamin
Dennis there is one very similar in our Asda it's called 'Marfona'.
Re: Restaurant Lamin
We went to Restaurant Lamim last night and had our best meal in ages. Not pretentious and the service was 'leisurely'.
Starters were prawn cocktail (normal prawns topped by a huge king prawn in a home-made sauce) and garlic mushrooms.
Carol had the perch with clams and was in ecstacies about it - I had the solha (plaice) with both chips and his recommended rice with garlic and coriander - delicious !
The bill complete with aperitifs, a bottle of Murhalha, dessert, coffee and port came to € 50.
Paulo, the owner, showed us the new patio used for lunch and in warmer weather for dinners and told us of his lunch time special at € 8.50 which we are going to try soon and will report on.
Meanwhile we can recommend it as an alternative to Tasquinha and Chrissies to give 3 different style restaurants within a few steps of each other - the gastronomic centre of Lagoa which only a few years ago was a gastronomic desert !!

We intend to try this place in the next couple of weeks.
Went and had a look.....Certainly without pretension!!
Heard mixed reports, so the best thing is to try it ourselves!!
(Mike Burtons boiled spuds werent the best selling point ever!!

Re: Restaurant Lamin
We went to this restaurant earlier this week having seen these posts and had our best meal for some time. I had small sole (3 of them them ) which were perfectly cooked, in garlic and herbs, with lovely roast potatoes, OH had lamb chops (lots of them) with chips (his choice) and salad. I had home made almond tart which was good. We will return when we're back in June and hopefully be able to sit outside. The restaurant was quiet but we weren't rushed and were made to feel welcome.

Re: Restaurant Lamin
If your idea of a good restaurant is fine fittings, expensive ambiance, attentive waiters, and classically comforting familiar menus, then Lamins is not the place for you.
IF....however, you are looking for a genuinely good Portuguese restaurant, that ignores your restaurant hill menus, and serves really good home cooked Portuguese food in totally unpretentious setting, served up by the owner in his chefs whites, then you will discover a gem in Lamins, Lagoa.
7 of us around a table being served freshley gathered local clams cooked in garlic and mopped up with fresh local bread, and washed down by anonymous wine served from an earthernware jug. Followed by baby sole cooked in olive oil, garlic and lemon, or a wonderful monkfish cataplana, was heaven.
And then, joy upon joy!! A Portuguese chef that can actually create a proper set chocolate mousse, rather than the disgustingly gloopy offerings you normally get in Algarvian restaurants.
Not particularly cheap, really good food in relaxing surroundings.
It's true what they are saying.......The market square in Lagoa is well on its way to being the regional capital of Portuguese food.

Ahhhhhh.....to be fair Roy....all we agreed to differ on was that over rated eatery known as L'Orangeroy4eyes wrote:Good heavens Bruce - it sounds as if we are in gastronomic agreement for once

.......................and the (for me) awful Ele e Ela and vastly overpriced Villa Medci
Try the caldeirada or cataplana at Lamim - but essential to pre-order.
