A Tasquinha Lagoa
Re: A Tasquinha Lagoa
Thanks Geoff. Returning to UK after 6 weeks at Vila Colina this Friday, driving back through Portugal to Santander to catch the Saturday night express to Portsmouth !
Knee made a full recovery so expect to see us with the Ramblers next time we're back, not sure when that might be yet but will keep you posted. Hope all well with Sue & yourself & we wish you many pleasant dry walks.

Re: A Tasquinha Lagoa
I am really pleased to report that Tasquinha, has upped it's game in every respect and is now definitely "a must try restaurant" for other than those who prefer to eat "budget class"!!
Always a good Portuguese restaurant, hidden round the back of the Lagoa market, Tasquinha, has now improved its decor and lighting, and the food, whilst remaining as good as it ever was, has taken on a slightly more upmarket style in presentation and quality.
The personal service and friendliness has definately not been sacrificed, and when I asked for a starter that I'd enjoyed during my last visit, but wasnt on last nights menu, the response as "no problem".
My Steak Dianne main course, served with stir fried vegetables and saute potatoes, was faultless, as was Julia's sea bass.
This small family business has sacrificed nothing in updating itself.
Price maybe, it was a little cheaper prior to re-vamp, but quite honestly, 25 euros a head for 3 courses, including "amuse bouche", wine and coffee was excellent value.
I think that this ex-pats secret will be a secret no more!

There is a saying that goes along the lines of stick to what you know and do well.
To open a restaurant OFF restaurant hill strikes me as a risky undertaking in a business, which up there depends so much on passing trade, and visibility to the potential customer.

Re: A Tasquinha Lagoa
Agree Bruce. Also the flamingo restaurant is in one of those locations that never seems to succeed. Think it would be a mistake
Re: A Tasquinha Lagoa
Tis a shame that place never seems to work.
All locations seem to have a business premise that never lasts longer than a season or so.
Never really believed in luck, however with these such places perhaps they are haunted or something.
Re Flamingoes, 5 years ago I looked at renting the place and turning it into a carvery for lunch time and dinner and all day at weekends.
Afternoon teas done properly as well
But costs in renting etc and my health no good stopped it all too.

"Steak Diane is an American dish of a pan-fried beefsteak with a sauce made from the seasoned pan juices, generally prepared in restaurants tableside, and flambéed. It was popular in the middle of the 20th century, and became considered dated by 1980."Bruce Wallis wrote:My Steak Dianne main course, served with stir fried vegetables and saute potatoes, was faultless!

Yeah......but posh meat and tatties.....and outmoded as it may be, well prepared, (if less than meets Widges high technical specifications)....anyway not outmoded Widge,,,,these days "Retro" is the new "IN"widge wrote:"Steak Diane is an American dish of a pan-fried beefsteak with a sauce made from the seasoned pan juices, generally prepared in restaurants tableside, and flambéed. Just seen that la tasquina is opening at the old Phoenix nights restaurant at monte Carvoeiro in May. Big restaurant to fill but let's hope that Marcos reputation earns him at lot of customers. Lots of luck
