I know the best way - stay in the UK and give the rest of us a break from these never-ending topics about missing Coronation Street!!!

and if property owners don't find a solution there will be plenty of holiday renters whinging here in a few weeks time! Unless of course, like you suggest, they all stay in the UK.

Some will always find something to whinge about . The onus is on the owners to keep their guests informed and to UPDATE their property descriptions. I wonder how many have actually done this ??

More a comment on the inability of people to keep this subject to one topic!

Personally, when I go to the Algarve, watching BBC or ITV is somewhere on my list of activities - just below cleaning the gutters. If I chose to live abroad it would still be low on the list - and if I wanted it that bad would be prepared to pay a premium and get a big dish! I certainly would not continually whinge about it or look for cheap, illegal options.

Ooops Sorry H.R.
i am not looking for an illegal way of watching tv and receiving suitable telephone etc, but trying to establish the easiest way of getting tv and phone.
Being disabled I shall not be able to always get out and about and if we can get to live in Portugal I would very much like to be able to watch some decent tv, BBC1,2 and 4.
I was unaware of the probs re receiving tv out in Portugal until I looked on the threads here on the CVO site and since being aware of the said probs I wanted to evaluate the problem with concise and good advice which one normally receives on this site.
In apologise if it all offends you and others but for some of us to be able to keep in touch with some of the BBC channels etc it would be a bonus for us. I also enjoy watching some of the Sky channels and again need to know how to obtain this if at all possible out in Portugal, but preferably legally.
I run an oil syndicate from where I used to live in the sticks of Dorset b4 moving to the coast and as I still continue to run this venture, I would very much like to continue to do so once out in Portugal, however I am keen to establish a good way of those contacting me from the UK and vice versa a decent and cheap telephone network. I understand it is expensive for such phone calls from the UK to Portugal and wish to find a cheap way for my clients to contact me. So therefore not necessarily looking for cheapness for me but for others to contact me, so not being cheap or selfish in any way.

Hi

Baggysallyjane:-

Your customers can call your UK mobile for the same cost whether you are in the UK or abroad. If you are in Portugal you pay to recieve the call. You need to talk to your mobile provider and get a package to recieve the calls at a decent rate.

Cumbria Sue. Rocha Brava have clearly got a new solution. There is no way they can recieve the old signal (no matter how big the dish) as the OLD SIGNAL HAS GONE.

Hampshire Rich - if you live in the UK and watch UK TV and you moved to Portugal what difference would it make?? - you would still watch UK TV particularly in the winter. If you think there are more important things to be doing - why are you not doing them now??

I do  - the most I watch on TV is sport which if I wanted to watch in the Algarve would be sat in the sunshine at a bar. The next is films - I would buy or rent the DVD. I very rarely watch the News, I do not watch any of the soaps and the only programs I would miss would be QI and Have I got News For You. So you see Pickwick, I would survive without the BBC or ITV - and as a thought, why don't the BBC extend their license fee to the EU, then you can all pay and watch - like we have to in the UK.

Hi HampshireRich

Yes you could survive but why deny yourself the same pleasures as you enjoy in the UK.

Pickwick

PS I do have a TV licence for home

Hey Pickwick - not saying you don't pay what due in the UK - my point being that if people move away from the UK but still want UK pleasures (for want of a better word) then I feel the correct cost must be paid. If the country does not supply these services, then that should be taken into consideration when moving.

For example, if I moved to Portugal and wanted UK SKY services and they were available legally through SKY I would pay whatever they charged because in the end you will either lose the service or be fined for illegal use.
