BBC is discussing the end of the TV license to be replaced by a subscription service £20/month .
Is this the start of end of FREE TV

This is strenuously denied by the BBC who state that their strategy is to impose inflationary licence fee increases beyond 2020.

Front page article in the Sunday Times suggests otherwise.
It is only a matter of time albeit 2020 is 6 years away.

One thing to point out is that theres a big difference between unauthorised and illegal-its illegal to sell equipment to decode encrypted channels in the u.k. for example,FTA channels watching outside of territory (i.e. u.k.) is unauthorised not illegal because they are not encrypted channels. I have an IPTV box on demo in my showrooms which I most certainly wouldn`t show if illegal..worst case scenario is i could get a desist notice..but I see it as less unauthorised than the prior sky solution where folks were participant in providing dishes to help receive unauthorised channels outside of territory..so theres a lot of hypocracy around now ..

I posted my blog to inform folks of all the main solutions and the pros and cons of each-this was as a result of so many illegal and tenuous solutions being offered "muddying" the waters of decent choice from legitimate LDA companies.with the most reliable offerings available-I believe in MY solutions and they are solutions arrived at after over 6mths of trialling most out there..reliability is absolutely key-especially for folks who rent their properties in the summer-we work with a lot of villa management companies and have developed in our firmware various uniqueties within the IPTV structure..for example,a way of remotely rebooting a box..silly thing..but preferable than have a complaint from a renter-..Our firmware has been developed in conjunction with the manufacturer, our service provider also supplies huge companies like Europa in Spain for example-who are licenced to provide IPTV via internet as part of their telecoms package.

Not everybody cares about missing BBC,ITV channels-I don`t particulalry as I watch other channels as a preference-but many do..and many realise the USP of offering ALL the channels with their rental..we rent two properties and in 8 years of renting we have always been fully booked..the astute realise that more toys mean more chance of a rental and one of the first questions we are asked..is "Do you have all the SKY channels"....:-)

As ever EMM you fail your audience with poorly researched, headline grabbing & often ambiguous statements. This is not helpful.

You tease the reader with "the Sunday Times suggests otherwise" when you could & should have referred to the official BBC statement which categorically refutes the allegation.

Secondly "it's only a matter of time" is nonsense, you can't even guess the name of the political party who will be in power in 6 years time !

Finally, & forgive me for exposing a tiny but important link between the Sunday Times & subscription TV……………. Rupert Murdoch would say that wouldn't he?

Yes you could survive but why deny yourself the same pleasures as you enjoy in the UK.

Pickwick

PS I do have a TV licence for home
Hey Pickwick - not saying you don't pay what due in the UK - my point being that if people move away from the UK but still want UK pleasures (for want of a better word) then I feel the correct cost must be paid. If the country does not supply these services, then that should be taken into consideration when moving.

For example, if I moved to Portugal and wanted UK SKY services and they were available legally through SKY I would pay whatever they charged because in the end you will either lose the service or be fined for illegal use.
Hi Rich

Remember the best things in life are illegal :D Have you been on the HSB again...... miss it big time...

When it was first mooted that UK TV would be lost to many exapts, thewre were a host of comments,it will never happen etc etc etc and it has.
One thing you can be sure of and that is there is nothing you can be sure of.
BBC3 is going to the internet. ITV is launching a subscription service and the BBC will follow.
It will happen and gradually, any new services will be subscription based.
The BBC needs to raise more revenuse which does not come from the tax payer so it will have to come from the viewer.

Hey Gary, nice to see the Eurocrats have not ground you down :D - a TV licence is something we pay in the UK so that ex-pats can watch quality TV for nothing when they are abroad

There are still lots of program's on sky still receivable in Algarve , you can watch itv2 hd and get coronations st and emmerdale
Channel 5 hd and lots more , all you need is a sky receiver here in the Algarve then just bring your uk sky card over and plug it in , you won't get the premium channels but all the rest available in Algarve
Don't believe emm when he /her tells you it won't work I use mine in 5 to 10 different sky boxes every day in the uk it does work
If you live here just get a sky hd subscription or a sky card sharing arrangement and get all channels available
Yes BBC one itv c4 c5 sd have all gone. Lots more will go with the next satellite change but not all uk channels will go there will always be something

It's not he end of the world it's just a change

If you have good internet you can get your live bbcs and itvs back
Or if a uk resident get a sling box connect it to your sky or free view box and view here
Good luck

I presume this needs an internet connection? How fast is the minimum requirement?
