Are YOR and the other companies going to tell/ email clients with this information or will it be something you only find out when you come to collect your vehicle ???

I can only speak for myself but clients will be informed as soon as the tax is implemented and details known.

Thanks for that Steen , but Is it €17 per rental whether you book 1 day or 100 days?

Credit where credit's due. Steen asked me to mail him the URL of the cheaper price I'd seen on the ECH website. Then he sent me an e-mail agreeing to match that price and telling me how to include the price match details in the booking form (i.e. in the 'comments' window).
Received a booking confirmation by e-mail. Still had original price at top, but in bold type further down, the matched price was displayed. This is what I will pay.
So thanks to Steen being true to his word I am happy to remain with AlgarveDriver/YOR.
Cheers Steen :D

We shall also be staying with Algarvedriver as Steen has price matched for us as well.

It worries me when people price match, surely their price is their best price and should compare with the opposition. 8)

This has always been my beef with Algarve Driver. When I ask for a best price, I want just that.

If company A offer to price match, and company B offer a better price, what is the point of going back to company A who should have offered me that price in the first place when I asked them for their best price!!!

I don't agree. The smaller car hire companies will be involved in a constant pice war with the big boys and obviously will try to get the best rental return they can. They obviously know that they
May be challenged and will have built in a bartering margin. It's only like negotiating to buy a new car or price

I too can confirm that Steen's price matching offer is honoured, willingly. The reduction will cover any €17 (or €17 + IVA?) charge many times over.

I'd be surprised if the rental companies don't put up more of a fight. They managed to resist paying ~ €25 per vehicle for a toll transponder for long enough yet they might now accept paying €17 per rental (possibly €100s per vehicle per year) now? I wonder how much they already pay for parking space in P4 (per vehicle plus possibly extra for each entry/exit).

What can the hire companies do, the airport can refuse them access to P4 and their transfer buses if some chose that route to go down.
When you have a captive market there is little the customers can do.
Getting a transfer bus and hiring locally will cost you more.
This is something that the much talked about Algarve Tourist authority and local politicians should get involved in but I am not holding my breath,

from TR
On the 1st April we are starting with a airport tax. Is not our choice, but airport rules for all rent a car companies. We are fighting against that . We are not sure if goes ahead or not, but we know is that the maximum amount they will ask per booking will be 17 euros. I hope you understand. Any news on this issue we will get in touch with you.
according to this the max is €17, is there any other rate ie per day? As Licy has posted elsewhere this will make booking for a weekend expensive, I have a quote for €70 for 4 days in April, this effectively makes it €87 - provided I avoid the motorways.

Resort Hoppa and other transfer companies look like the winners on this (and possibly the smaller supermarkets in the village)

Does this mean we can't park a YOR car anywhere on the airport when we come to meet our son half way through our rental period?
