Wouldn't surprise me in the least, it seemed run down last year when I visited, it smelt of insolvency. 8)

Have heard rumours it could become a Continente supermarket

Yes it is going to be a new Continete supermarket, it has obviously been decided that there are not enough supermarkets!!

That's a shame as it's always been handy for some items rather than driving to Leroy Merlin

You can go to SaniPina which is just behind IZI. They stock a lot of hardware bits and pieces.

It really hasn't been worth the effort of visiting there for about the last 3 years
Huge gaps in displays and not even the most basic stock

It's easier to just keep on going to Leroy or MaxMat, visiting the excellent hardware shop in Lagoa

The AKI subsidiary of Leroy Merlin that was destroyed in the fire has now re-opened in Portimao behind Max Mat. Nearby is Brica Marche in the Intermarche development.

There are actually two:
One is opposite BPI Bank and the other is in the short pedestrian precinct. Both are good old fashioned ironmongers where you can get that strange window fitting that they used in the 60s and they do not come in a blister pack !

There's also a small hardware shop in Ferragudo in the street round the back of the Lunatic nightclub.

One thing is for sure, I'd rather see a branch of Leroy or AKI on that site, rather than a sixth hypa market

I hope not, that combination seems to be a good idea!
