Re: EDP changes
EDP Online is currently offline, so I can't check but I think that https://edponline.edp.pt/Ajuda/Paginas/ ... ireto.aspx will give you the guidance you need. Translators are available!

Re: EDP changes
Everyone is talking about EDP but what about the other energy companies? The whole point is now we can choose cheaper suppliers.
Has anyone had experience of the other electricity suppliers - I did a simulation on the ERSE website and GALP seems to come out much cheaper on dual fuel. Anyone have any bad experiences of the new companies?

Re: EDP changes
Good post rog123, it appears that we are not thinking on the same lines as we do in the UK now its an open market & if we did & more people migrated to other energy suppliers EDP may become more competitive.

Re: EDP changes
I didn't realise that mains gas was available in the Algarve but out of curiosity I checked the ERSE simulator for our estimated electricity only consumption.
Galp is, according to ERSE, approx 6.5% cheaper (100€) per annum for our estimated consumption despite charging 25% extra for the potência and 3% extra for daytime units than our EDP Comercial tariff. They are however 1% cheaper on off-peak units but since we get 1% discount from EDP on all the preceding charges, I must conclude that the ERSE simulator is wrong.
To be fair, it seems that Galp offer certain discounts on petrol or shopping at Continente through their loyalty card but I don't see how that reduces the electricity bill.

Re: EDP changes
There are several other suppliers competing for our business other than GALP, and some of them have even cheaper rates. I don't think we'll ever see EDP competitive with their prices because they know many people don't have the gumption to change suppliers.

Re: EDP changes
I am on a dual tariff rate at present. Can anyone let me know what the normal rate per unit of electricity is and also what is the fixed charge, inclusive of Iva. I want to compare my dual tariff with same to check the best option. I am no sure if there is any advantage to having the dual tariff. Many thanks.

Re: EDP changes
Based on the rates quoted at https://energia.edp.pt/particulares/ene ... ?prod=1577, the daytime rate on the dual tariff (0,1890€ per kWH) is approx 19% more expensive than the 'normal' simples rate (0,1602 per kWH) but the offpeak rate (0,0986 per kWH) is approx 38.5% cheaper than the simples rate. The daily potência charge is the same for both.
If you consume more than approximately 33% of your annual total at the offpeak rate you are (just) better off with a dual rate. Changing from the ciclo semanal to ciclo diario or vice versa may help you to achieve the required result.
It should be noted that some special offers are available that may only apply to the simples rates, so the breakeven point may be different.

Re: EDP changes
Richard, you have clarified that in a simple and concise manner - many thanks and much appreciated. Data is not very clear, if at all, on the EDP website and I would lose a day if I were to go into the office.
Re: EDP changes
Yes, thanks Richard for clarifying. I must say EDP were very helpful on the phone so I am inclined to stay with them for the time being.
