Maybe taking down the number plate of the car would have helped, and Algarve shopping car park as CCTV so hopefully these people will be caught.

Just proves your mother was right when she said "don't talk to greasy looking latino's with small black moustaches driving flash cars" eh!

The same thing happened to a friend on Tuesday 5th January at mid day, this time actually here in Carvoeiro. My friend was walking along Rua do Barranco near to the Banco Caixa Agricola. He was stopped by a man in a dark green car who spoke to him like a long lost friend. Same story, children starving in Madeira. Luckily, or unluckily whichever way you wish to see it, the same man had approached my friend before in the car park of Algarve Shopping. With his wits about him this time he told the man to "get lost" or words to that effect and wrote down the number plate of the car.

This morning I have been with my friend to the Carvoeiro Police and have been shown a photo of the same man, obviously known to the Police in this regard. It seems that we would have to be willing to go to court to pursue the matter. Unfortunately the guys perpetrating the scam are gypsies (albeit well dressed and quite affluent to have the cars they have) and we both felt it somewhat unwise to do so. The only way we can try to stop others being conned is to broadcast the situation in as many ways and places as we can, starting here. Please spread the word and be on your guard for a well dressed man in a large expensive car asking for your help for the children of Madeira!

Another man (or possibly the same one) will again greet you like a long lost friend and 'offer' you a watch or watches. He then proceeds to want 'only 10 euros each' for them with the money going to charity - his beer charity ?

Has anyone thought they've been offered a good Deal? 10 euros for a watch! that's cheaper than the Chinese on the outroad, If I meet him I'll take a dozen. 8)
