WALK ON MONDAY 14th Nov: SILVES WINDMILL FROM ENXERIM
WALK ON MONDAY 14th Nov: SILVES WINDMILL FROM ENXERIM
THIS WALK IS NOW CLOSED AS WE HAVE ENOUGH PEOPLE
In the absence of our esteemed leader, Geoff, Helen & Nigel will lead one of our favourite walks, from the Cafe at Enxerim to Silves Windmill and then on to the Eucalyptus plantation.
There are some steep hills to climb especially near the start, though the steepest (to the Windmill) is optional.
There are also some rivers to cross by stepping stones.
Duration is about 2 h 30 m, just under 10km. Geoff has rated it a 3 (middle of the scale).
We propose lunch at Cafe Casinhas, which is on the Turismo Rural a short drive from Cafe Enxerim. Take the first left as you head back in to Silves, please let us know if you want to stay for lunch so that we can book.
Walking boots or stout trainers are recommended, along with walking poles.....and a hat and water...but bring some wet weather gear in any case!
Please note that the walk will be cancelled if the weather is poor or if it has been extremely heavy rain the day before due to problems if the rivers are very full. We shall put a note on this website at about 0830 that morning, 0900 at the latest.
Nigel's mobile is 917 988 980 if you need to get hold of us.
As usual, all at your own risk, and no charge.
Start : 1000, come a bit earlier if you would like coffee at Cafe Enxerim.
Directions:From CVO, go to Silves and cross the bridge.
Turn right on the N124 , and bear right over the next roundabout in the direction of Messines. Go past the Galp petrol station on the left until about 1.5kms from the bridge. Watch for a sign on the right hand side of the road that says 'Residencial' and a black sign with white writing advertising 'Vila Sodre'. Immediately after this sign, turn left at a mini roundabout. In only a few yards, cross the zebra crossing and immediately turn right. Bear left on a road that runs parallel to the N124 and park there. The cafe Enxerim is on the hill directly in front of you.
Almost immediately, turn right, and park after about 100m, just before the Cafe Cantinho do Enxerim.
If you go over the bridge on the N124, you have gone too far!

Hello Everyone,
We have today been and marked out our route for the walk on Monday.
It is undulating and steep in places. So we have kept it to 7k.
You will be rewarded with lovely views, so it's well worth the effort.
We have also booked lunch at Cafe Casinhas for 1300. Great lunch for 7.50 Euros.

A successful walk for 20 walkers in glorious November sunshine, followed by lunch at Cafe Casinhas...
If you only get part of the picture, right click and open image in new tab!
These are the brave ones that made it up to the Windmill...

The photos may not be visible to all...they certainly aren't to me, but here they are from Helen...though they have been cut off a bit, for unknown reasons!
Anyway, well done H & N
