Walk Monday 12 March 2018 ; Funcho & Beyond :Closed
Another potential mystery tour....but now closed.
I need to recce a new route, so will do that as soon as possible after our return on 20 February.....so please keep an eye on this topic and sign up! If all goes OK, it will be the other side of the Funcho, a lovely river walk, great countryside and a bit of a scramble up a bank.Walk now recced, see below
It is ESSENTIAL that you indicate below if you can come as numbers will be limited to about 20. Thank you.
Degree of difficulty : Grade 3 Energetic
Duration about 2 hours 15 mins.
Start : 1000
GPS : 37.2763705,-8.3168605,605
Directions: there are 2 different ways of getting to the start, depending on whether you want/need a coffee as there is no cafe at the start of the walk.
If you are not confident about either route, we can meet you just after the turning signposted "Barragem do Arade 3 kms", see below, at 0915. If you want this, please indicate below.
Option 1 : The direct way...and the easiest
Drive from CVO to Silves, go over the bridge and turn right and follow the N124 for about 7 kms until you see a turning on the left signposted "Barragem do Arade 3 kms".......the signpost is in a small triangular traffic island, which has a large palm tree on it.
CONTINUE on the N124 for almost 7km , passing signs for Nora and Benaciate (on the right) and Torres/Corte (on your left).
Continue and turn left at the sign " Vale de Fuzeiros and Amorosa".
Drive through Amarosa and follow signs to " Passadeuos, Pedreiras, Vale de Fuzeiros".
Go through the hamlet of Pedreiras , ignore the turning on the left to Vale Fuzeiros.
You then should shortly cross a bridge over the Funcho : park at the end on the left.
Option 2 : The indirect way, for those that want a coffee!
Drive from CVO to Silves, go over the bridge and turn right and follow the N124 for about 7 kms until you see a turning on the left signposted "Barragem do Arade 3 kms".......the signpost is in a small triangular traffic island, which has a large palm tree on it.
Drive in the direction of the Barragem for 1km when there is a cafe on the left ( A Rainha): turn right, signposted Canestros and Gregorios.
Drive through both Canestros and Gregarios for 3kms then make a sharp left turn, almost doubling back on yourself.
Drive for 2kms until you come to a T junction at the top of the hill, turn right and drive about 1km to the village : the Casa da Vinha cafe/restaurant will be on the right hand side.
We will be there from about 0925 for a coffee and to order the lunches. We will be leaving at about 0940/0945 for a short 10 minute drive to the start of the walk ; just follow us!
Lunch: this is optional, but will be 10€, and at Casa de Vinho in Fuzeiros, a short drive away......but please note new lunch price policy at viewtopic.php?f=39&t=27800
Walking boots/stout trainers recommended and walking poles.
Usual caveats - all walks are at your own risk, and we do not walk if it is pouring with rain...no charge, of course...I will endeavour to put any cancellation note on this site by 0830 on the day of the walk.
Any questions , please ask or ring 282 380015 preferably between 1800-1900 or 8am to 9am but not before 20 February.

Hi all
Just to say that Sue & I recce'ed the walk today....the river/barragem was a bit flooded and the usual path was under water . We found a workaround, though it entails about 1.5km road walk. The views from the river bank are great though.
Time was 2 h 15 mins.....one long steepish hill.

A beautiful sunny day , but no sign of Peter and Wendy and Lina decided that exam revision was somehow more important than a walk with a load of old codgers....anyway, 19 plus 3 dogs turned up, many for an early coffee at C de V. The river looked lovely, though we had to detour where the riverside path was flooded.
The dogs weren't too sure about crossing.....
Up the longish hill to the old farmhouse with great views:
Before back to the C de V for a nice beer...or coffee....or a check as to where the container with all their household goods had got to....
The usual good lunch :
With Willie sampling the wine...
...and Rod & Gail showing they're still young at heart...
Only 1 h 45 mins I'm afraid...but it was a new walk.....need to recce another good half hour. Volunteers?
And, I nearly forgot to add, we collected 17.5 € for the charity....a very generous contribution from Jenny who walks but doesn't lunch : and as the lunch was a bit more expensive at 9€, many added some extra. Thanks to all.
