Good call Martin. What is so amazing is the flatness of the approach. In my flying days - in light aircraft - we would turn onto finals at 1000' over Faro marina !!

I think their called "flybynight" airlines, very honest and fly regularly



think first one is a german airline (?) and second it says it was French charter.

I wonder how they understand what is being told them, its very hard to make out what is being said. Interesting how feet are still used by aircraft and english is the language of air traffic control

English is the international language for flyers. Height is in feet. Speed in knots. Pressure in millibars. Very confusing !!

Apart from America where height is feet and pressure in inches but still knots

Sailing is just as bad - with fathoms, millibars and knots !

France is the same except they speak in French between themselves - can be dangerous !

'Minimums' is the lowest height and distance from which it would be possible to do a 'go around' in case of any problem such as obstruction on the runway.
'Retard' is the appropriate moment to apply reverse thrust to assist braking.

My word - at this rate we will have organise a question and answer session over a few pints !!

The numbers are the direction of the runway. At Faro the runway is 10/28. This means the Easterly runway is at 100 degrees magnetic and the Westerly at 280 degrees. You may also see at large airports with parallel runways L and R to designate which runway to use.
On the taxiways you also get these numbers with arrows indicating the way to the take-off point.
