Sesmarias
Hi we've been looking at properties in the Sesmarias area, which looks beautiful. We particularly like a property near the stadium Polidesportivo de Semarias. Any thoughts? We are aware that there a few bars and restaurants within walking distance, but are the roads safe to walk along? Or run or cycle? Any ideas or thoughts would be very much appreciated. Thank you.

Hi Tim,
We bought our place in Sesmarias in 2004.
I guess it depends what you are looking for as to how suitable the location is. However, the roads are safe and the recent introduction of numerous speed bumps deters the boy racers.
It's a quiet village with a couple of bars and restaurants but is a short taxi ride from Lagoa, Carvoeiro and Ferragudo.
We are on Sesmarias Country Club which is occupied by a good mix of nationalities and residents and non residents.
Good luck

Re: Sesmarias
Hi
Thank you for your reply. We actually viewed a property on Sesmarias Country Club, but it wasn't quite what we were looking for. Really liked the area though and pretty close to the property we are seriously considering.
Location wise it seems to be great for the places you mention, all of which we like, and also for Portimao and for Praia de Rocha. All of which would be fine by car/taxi, which is fine for us.
We did wonder whether the local roads were suitable for walking/running/cycling, as we wouldn't always just want to jump in the car. Is the traffic light enough for it not to be a concern? Or are the footpaths good? Or are there trails where you can walk/run/cycle away from the road?
Thanks again.

Re: Sesmarias
The road between the water tower in Sesmarias and the Gramacho Golf Club is not pedestrian friendly at all. Furthermore there are no speed bumps, pavements or much street lighting.
The other main roads in the area are better but not perfect for pedestrians. The back streets around the urbanisations have pavements and lighting.

Re: Sesmarias
Hi Tim. We have a place in Mato Serrao which is roughly between Sesmarias and Carvoeiro. We've walked from ours to Ferragudo via Sesmarias and there are paths on the majority if not all of the route. I personally would be quite happy cycling on most of the roads in that general area and on the routes into Carvoeiro but would possibly have a slightly different view in terms of kids out on bikes. Hope you manage to find somewhere suitable.
All the best
Dan
