WALK - MONDAY 12 SEPTEMBER 2022 - RIBBEIRO DAS CANAS

[Linda and Russell]

Linda and Russell will be leading this walk which we have just checked and cleared the overgrown path. The walk is 9kms, just over 2 hours. There is one gradual uphill section but the rest is fairly flat, therefore quite a moderate walk for the start of the season. We walk beside the river, then gradually climb up a narrow path to join wide tracks at the top. Later we head down a secluded valley beside a small baragem. There is water for the dogs to cool off in the river near the start and end of the walk. The usual rules apply: wear suitable footwear, bring a drink, poles if you have them, no charge, walk at your own risk.

Meet at Cafe Casa De Pasto Riba E Serra at Rasmalho at 9.15am. (The cafe may be closed, it was today).
Directions: follow the N125 towards Portimao then turn off and follow the signs for Monchique. At the Roundabout take the left turning for Monchique (N266). After about 3kms at the village of Rasmalho you will see the Café Casa De Pasto Riba E Serra on your left. Park on the right-hand side of the road, opposite the café.
We will drive to the start of the walk which is about 2 kms further along the road. For those who would like to stay for lunch we will drive to the Ourique cafe for an al fresco lunch. We also checked this out today and had a very enjoyable lunch for 10 euros.

We are still walking today in the light rain. If you are not opposite the café at 9.15am we will assume you are not coming.

Luckily we chose to sit inside and they let Toby the dog sit under the table. The heavy rain started just after we sat down.
