G, you had any problems with Cabovisão? I am really happy with their unbelievably good service.

Seriously, best service I have encountered in my 2 years in the Algarve and no problems yet.... okay it has only been a month, but I am still really happy with it.

No Maddi, I have just been looking forward to having Internet Access in my home 24 hours a day for as long as I can remember. And it REALLY was good service - I was blown away.

Problem with the cable people is that they only serve quite small areas I think. I am very close to central Carvoeiro but the cable ends 100 metres from me and they will not push it further. Telepac/Telecom will give "wider" wide band I understand and we shoud all be bal eto have it although technology being what it is I hear it works better on analogue than ISDN??!!

Hi Kidson, you can get a few options on CaboVisao, however you need to check and see if you can get it in your area first. This is the biggest problem. Go to http://www.netvisao.pt/netvisao/Servico ... nibilidade and put in your telephone number (i.e. 282 555 555) and they should say SIM or NAO

As far as the prices go, you can buy a number of options.

1. Internet 128kb line, 40 channels of TV and telephone (free rental, but pay for calls) = € 43.06 a month

2. Internet 256kb line, 40 channels of TV and telephone (free rental, but pay for calls) = € 50.06 a month

3. Internet 512kb line, 40 channels of TV and telephone (free rental, but pay for calls) = € 60.06 a month

Considering I used to pay €45-50 a month on telephone costs (while being on the web just one hour a day with an analogue modem, you can see the benefits here.

The speed is not very fast at all, similar to ISDN, but what the heck, its on 24 hours a day and a colleague of mine has ADSL. His setup was a nightmare and his connection drops quite often (until now... mine hasn't done it once, let's hold thumbs).

I have Cable 512 in the office, the webcam is hooked up to the net via a Cabovisão 512 connection - and we all know how many times that was down.

I have to admit, the service has become more stable over the past few months, but I have encountered the same problem getting them to extend the cable to my front door on the outskirts of Carvoeiro. The salesperson gave me hope for months that they would eventually get there and after the gazillionth phonecall he told me to shove off because they were doing other parts of the Algarve network first and he would get back to me when he returns to Carvoeiro - That was last October

Broadband will finally give me the speed I want (and I am used to) at home.

Guess the meaning translates to ring and they will come and assess the situation?

My problem is that I have an Apple Mac G4 computer and understand not many exist on the Algarve!

Well, ok you guys win! However, my service is still up and cooking for the time being and thousands of times better than a modem!
