Portuguese Bank with UK office
Portuguese Bank with UK office
With a bit of building work liable to start soonish, we need to borrow some dosh. We've got an account in a Portuguese bank, but they want one of us to go out to apply for the money and both of us to go out to sign for it. A pain with the children etc.
Any recomended Portuguese banks with an English office to save us the trip.

Annie has been doing a little research and there seems to be plenty of choice.
She was talking to one who will check on building progress before handing over the next wad of cash. They do online banking too and have some economical scheme to save on transfer fees. Looks good.

peterm, that sounds very interesting, could you please pm me with details?
We intend to move the the area later this year and are visiting next month to, amongst other things, open an account with a Portuguese bank.
Being able to transfer money economically and meanwhile use the account online whilst in the UK sounds ideal. Thanks, Mike D

For what it is worth, Mike, I set up an account with Millennium bcp in Carvoeiro in December. The bank allows internet banking in English, which I have found very useful. Transferred funds from my UK account yesterday, and they were in my Portuguese account today. The cost for internet transfers between Portuguese accounts is about 1.5 euro. They also have a branch in Lagoa.

Same bank. They also mention something about paying Portuguese utility bills from the UK (struggling a tad with leaflets in Portuguese).

Peter, I sent funds over mainly to pay my lawyer, since it will only cost me 1.5 euros for the transaction, and I should be able to do it on the internet from the UK. I was taking advantage of a (slight) improvement in the exchange rate. Only problem is that he hasn't billed me yet for a house purchase that was completed in November 2004. Is this usual?
