a good beer

Post by painter »

Hi i'm coming out in a couple of weeks, and was hoping for some recommendations for good bars with good beer. Also what is the normal price for a beer? In London now its just short of £3 a pint

Goodday painter,

Naturally it depends where you go when it comes to beer, but Sullys just off the square is always a good place to start and Smilers is a fantastic place to watch the world go by (a pint or CANECA of Superbock http://www.superbock.pt will cost you €2.50 at Smilers). The average price for a CANECA (which means MUG in English) is anywhere from €1.50 a little further away from the coast to €3.00 right on the beach and sometimes in Albufeira you may be able to find a CANECA for the bargain price of €4.00....

Hope that helps.

oops .. almost forgot. I wrote some stuff about beer for Carvoeiro.com almost 18 months ago http://www.carvoeiro.com/diary/160701.htm. Pretty meaningless but it might be fun...[/url]

Yes, its difficult to watch the world go by from Sullys (it's wonderful in there, but it is like an old cave (in a good way)). I meant watch the world go by from Smilers :) Even their logo is a SMILEY!

For good Belgian beers, try the Charly Bar, at the other side of the square, upstairs.

For the evenings - try Imprevisto - about 100 metres from the square on the road leading TO Lagoa. Good choice of drinks and you can drink outside - ENJOY!!

One of the best bars is Carvoeiro Bar owned by the dutchman - Hans and his good lady. Great mix of music and will pull out anything from early Beatles to David Gray. You can sit outside. They have been there a long time and are very friendly. It is next door to Le Bistroquet restuarant on the main hill. Good cross section of nationalities.
