Hi,
Just to let you know my parents were the victims of an opportunist thief yesterday, someone came into there home and stole mobile phones and a few other bits and bobs.
Past few weeks, they have had someone passing and asking for water,
maybe not connected but you never know.

Happened to our neighbour last Friday. We have an apartment in Carvoeiro centre on the second floor, hers is the ground floor Police reckon she was targeted as some Portuguese lads were seen buzzing around the apartment block. Needless to say we are putting down the security shutters even when popping out for 10 mins and we have one hell of a climb to the 2nd floor. They will get in no matter how high if they've a mind to, just balcony hop. Sad times....hope your parents are too scared by the ordeal

Happened to our vila a couple of times.
Thieves came in through the door whilst people were unloading their shopping in the kitchen and took the bags and mobile phones that they had left in the living room. No one heard them.
Always keep door closed, patio doors closed, everything closed!
I do that in my flat even if I am just going downstairs to pick something up.
My cleaning lady was downstairs once and had just mopped the upstairs and left the door open for it to dry and thieves came and stole a kettle and a power drill.

Our aprtment in albufeira was broken into last year and phones etc taken.
( guest left window unlocked )
Neighbours have even had windows removed .
However most cases seem to be due to visitors not bringing their common sense with them on holiday.
Don,t go out without locking doors and windows plus shutters if you have them ( this also helps keep the property cool ).
Don,t leave valuables in open view in areas where there is easy public access.
Don,t leave doors open when carrying luggage etc from cars pearticularly where there is a long walk involved.
In fact behave just as you would at home.
Most theft in holiday areas is opportunistic so don,t give them the oppportunity.
