Pool Water Heating

Post by David Johnson »

Can anyone advise on the most economic / efficent way to heat pool water. Gas, Electric, or even Solar !

I wondered if anyone had experimented with solar power to heat the pool water? If so what are the implications of utilising / converting the common domestic water solar heaters to this purpose. If anyone has any advice on this topic I would be pleased to hear from them.

I think realistacaly you would need a hell of lot of solar panels considering the through put of water via the pumps. Our pool is heated via electric and measures 34ft by 14ft with a deepend to give you some idea of the water content. It takes about 2.5 days to heat up to 28 degrees from about 17 degrees. If you only heat overnight (cheap rate) it costs about £50 per week. If you don't and run 24hrs it's about £80 which we pass on to any client. The pool heaters should not be required between the middle of June and the end of September. This is also the period you will not require a pool cover. Hope this helps. I know a good pool company if you need more advice. Let me know.

I am also intending to install a pool heater so would appreciate any company recommendations and an idea of cost. The prices I have come accross to date range from very cheap to horrendously expensive. Please contact me at gslow@omante.net.om.

Gordon, We had a new pool cover installed last September and after getting a few quotes the best was a company called Piscinas Oceano. They can handle anything to do with pools and did a very good job for us. Tel 282 342772. Good luck.

I have seen wahys of heating the pool on various programs.

One involed a 200 ft bore hole which brought the heat up of the water 70 percent , and another involved coper piping an dheat vanes in the roof to achieve the saem reselt.

maybe these would help and be more affordable and more enviromentally friendly.

cumbernauld.net@blueyonder.co.uk if you want more explanation.

Surely the best is a heat pump? Try SACL at Vale de Lousas or, David, wait until August and vist the Lagoa Fatacil show and compare what is on offer
