LISBON - When fires break out in southern Europe in the hot summer months, the highest price is paid by Portugal, where the total forest area that has gone up in flames is 24 times greater than that of France, four times that of Spain and three times that of Greece and Italy.

More forest fires have been reported in Portugal. Hundreds of firefighters worked through the night to contain seven new blazes in northern and central parts of country.

Forest fires are an annual problem in Portugal during the hot dry summer months, but the authorities say the situation is worse than at any time in the past 60 years.

It is estimated that 120,000 hectares of woodland have been destroyed by fires so far this summer

the concert will be in lisbon, U2 are finishing they european tour in Sporting stadium, but i'm afraid is sold out...

Remember the " DOME " millions and milions of pounds wasted plus " Wembley way over budget ( only football and popconcerts )>
Next we will have the " olympics " , what will happen to all the developments " After " the crowds have gone home.

Very hot weather, lack of water equal fires every country in the world sometimes have these problems " Not Just Portugal "

This lot resign over anything ( last politician with any credibility sadly passed away last week ).

All we would get would be alist of excused and aload of verbal *****.

sorry Graham, I can’t find any details on ‘that’ concert. I thought I’d heard something about a funky-reggae-worldmusic-rave coming up soon. I guess it’s a hush hush underground gig (or did I imagine it)

I thought it totally uncalled for and embarrassing to Robin's family..
McCririck's an out and out Tory and with giant ego,using the funeral service as a platform to gain self-publicity..

U2 Receive Humanitarian Honor in Portugal

LISBON, Portugal -- Members of U2 received Portugal's Order of Liberty, one of the country's highest honors, on Sunday in recognition of their work for humanitarian causes over the past 25 years.

President Jorge Sampaio presented the medals to vocalist Bono, guitarist The Edge, bassist Adam Clayton and drummer Larry Mullen Jr. in a formal ceremony at the presidential palace before the band's concert in the Portugese capital.

U2's activism during their career include work with Amnesty International and efforts to get global powers to forgive Third World debt. The band played at the Live Aid concert for Ethiopian famine relief in 1985, and was one of the key performers last month at the Live 8 concerts, aimed at pressuring the world's wealthiest nations to increase aid for Africa.

More than 50,000 people were expected to attend the concert at a soccer stadium Sunday night, the final European date on the band's "Vertigo" tour, which is in support of its most recent album, "How to Dismantle an Atomic Bomb."

The band returns to North America next month, beginning with four shows in Toronto on Sept. 14. The tour wraps up Dec. 19 in Portland, Ore.

Maybe it was the Lenny Kravitz gig? Nothing lined up in the Algarve stadium for August or September that has been mentioned.

Did anyone pop down to Albufeira to see Jamiroquai on the 12th/13th August?
