A Visit to Caroeiro

Post by PaulaJean »

My husband and I, as well as another couple are coming to Carvoeiro the second week of October. The website has been extremely helpful in planning our trip. I love the web cam and look at it numerous times throughout the day. The beach information and pictures are great.

I was wondering if anyone could answer a couple of questions.

1 - Many of the guide books state that it is frowned upon for men and women to wear shorts. However, I have noticed many people wearing them while watching the web cam. Is it acceptable to where to the beach or to the market? Also, do men wear shorts while playing golf?

2 – Do any of the beaches offer places to change into and out of bathing suits?

3 – What restaurants do the “natives” eat at in Carvoeiro?

thanks Paula

Dress Code

Hi Paula Jean

That must be some guide book! Of course shorts are the order of the day although you may want something longer as the evenings draw in. Shorts are also acceptable for golf but be careful as many of the courese insist on shirts with collars (ie polo type and not T shirts). The shorts should also be proper shorts - not footy type gear!

I don't think changing facilities exist on any beaches.

I haven't seen any natives lately but most of the Portuguse locals would eat at home or go to restaurants out of Carvoeiro. Of the local ones I have seen the Portuguese use you could try O Cantinho, A Marisqueira, A Palmeira, Os Tres Jotas.

You'll have a great time

PaulaJean most of the beaches have restaurants that have toilet faciltities (some better than others) that you could probably change in but no actual changing rooms.

.... although after the odd port or two, the effect on your vision may lead you to believe you are in a muslin country.

carvoeiro is in PORTUGAL a small country in EUROPE, and is also a christian country, it's more likelly for britain to become a muslim country than portugal nowadays, all you can see is muslims in the streets of london, and the worst thing is the laws are changing to suit them...

Mind you the Algarve (Al Gharb) was once Muslim territory when it was ruled by the Moors and many of the attitudes are still very Arab, despite the Christians reclaiming it several centuries ago.

In my opinion religion should be an individual thing and shouldn't impose itself on society and how it is governed etc. Atheists don't go round telling people you have to wear this or that or cover your shoulders up etc.

Someone has told me that there is a law here that says you cannot walk about the streets without a shirt on or without shoes on your feet. I know a guy that was stopped by a GNR officer in Silves and told to put on a top whilst he was cycling about the town.

Personally I think it is a bit unfair that guys can walk about the streets without a top on but if a woman did it she would probably be arrested!
