dear all

I am visiting for a week from next tuesday, having been in need of a break. I only booked today! I have taken a lead from my travel agent and tripadvisor, and my first visit to the Algarve is to Carvoeiro, and Colina Village.

I believe the place has had a bit of a refurb over the winter. Is everything finished?

I have hired a car, as it is cheaper than payin for transfers. Any tips for eating out, or what to see, I'd be very grateful. I like a bit of info as to places I am going to visit, so anything you can help with

Hello Guest. I live near there. I haven't seen much going on to be honest and I think it must be pretty much done. I think you'd need to use your car to get into the centre of Carvoeiro, well, we do! Its a bit of a hike without one. There are a few cafes and restaurants within walking distance, but not many. I see people walking past, who must come from there going up towards the Intermarche, which probably only takes about 15-20 minutes each way if you walk slowly. I walked home once from the Intermarche with a pushchair. It probably only took 15 minutes but I didn't do it again.

I travel by car everywhere to be honest, but we're in a goodlocation for most things. What sort of thing do you want to do on your holiday???

Sorry, I cannot answer your question about Colina Village, but your advisors have given you excellent advice about where to spend your first visit in the Algarve.

Not only do we think Carvoeiro is the nicest town in the region, but if you search around this forum you'll find loads of useful info.

At the top of this screen you will see a link to "Search". If you click that and then enter "Restaurant" into the search box, you will be quite overwhelmed with the volume of recommendations for great eating places. Mind you when I say great, I mean great local food, great fun, great atmosphere and good prices - haute cuisine is quite rare.

thanks folks, really kind to get sucha quick reply.

We are just looking for a nice relaxing week, perhaps a few short visits to places of interest, hang around on a beach, eat good food.....

One of the appeals of the Colina Village was the indoor pool, as I hope that will be warm enough for a swim for the kids (10 and 13) Fortunately, they aren't action packed kids, and are quite happy reading books or playing on the ol' Nintendo!

weather looks hopeful anyway!

If you want to hang around on a good beach and eat some great food try caneiros beach on the road to Ferragudo and the restuarant Rei das Praias. The beach is lovely and they serve great fish.

Why dont you enter the car treasure hunt on Saturday 15th April. Then you are sure you will find some interesting places and people on your travels.

Although it is years since I have played, I quite fancy a round of golf. I would quite like to try and get the missus and kids into it too. is there anywhere nearby where I could hire clubs and shoes and go for a hack?

Val de Milho sounds like the place for you. Relaxed par 3 and you can hire everything you need. And you don't need to hire shoes - you can wear trainers

One of the other guests suggested joining in the treassure hunt. Give it a go, you can be partnered with others if you are not too keen on driving or don't know the area well! It'll give you a chance to meet some of the "locals" to

Who said the weather was scorching? The weather has been absolutely awful here so far this year. I really hope it starts to improve soon else I might be going elsewhere in search of the sun!
