I know this has been brought up before but I got a bit confused by it all.
I need to set up a Portuguese Bank Account, does anybody have any recommendations, I have all the documentation needed but want to know if there is a bank that will allow me to withdraw and deposit in the UK.
Just depositing would be okay. It needs to be near CVO

I have been with banco espirto santo for many years..no complaints.
they have internet banking and know they have a london office but dont know whether you can pay in there.

there office is in lagoa on same road as public notary

I use Totta bank on the right side of restaurant hill as you go up and they have a branch in London too and also offer internet banking.

I'm with Totta - do they have a website which is in English as I would like to start using the account on line, but don't understand enough Portuguese to work my way through their website. I found the UK site, but all it shows is their address and some history. Nothing about on line banking.

Barclays Bank on the EN125 in Lagoa (next to Mestre Maco) offers online banking in English as well as English speaking staff. Surely you can withdraw and deposit in the UK - how they compare with expenses I can't tell though.

Barclays are not linked to the U.K. computer system, a surprise to me when I tried to draw money out at the counter!

Totta's website is in Portuguese only but go into the branch in CVO and they will explain it to you or there is a number for 'estrangeiros' foreigners to ring.

You can transfer money from a UK bank account to a Portuguese bank account. There is normally a charge of around £25 per time and you usually have to go into the bank (any branch) to do it.
I bank with Millennium. They are very good and we use both Carvoeiro and Lagoa branches. The online banking is also in English.

I agree with Summer, we use Millennium bank in Lagoa and use the website here in the UK to keep a check on our account in Portugal, we can transfer money etc on the site which is in English. The Lagoa branch are really helpful and friendly.

Hi,

You should open an account with Millennium... i have one with them in Portugal and I have access to my account in the UK as they have an office in London. You can also send money to Portugal from the UK by depositing money at the postoffice with a GIRO slip free of charge and it takes 3 business days to get to Portugal!

Yes, you can have online access with CGD - the staff in the branch in Carvoeiro can help you with passwords etc, it is all in Portuguese - but fairly self-explanatory.

that's really useful to know for anyone wanting to transfer money from the UK to Portugal. I didn't know anyone did it for free.
