Hi. Can anyone tell me if there are any English speaking Radio Stations on the Algarve and if so what type of music/frequency?

Hi we are the biggest radio station in the Algarve, on 95.8 and 101.2, and listen on line at www.kissfmalgarve.com. Our format in the day is 90's to today, with golden oldies Sunday morning and me in the evening!

As I recall, reception is variable, most broadcasting is not in English, and the drum machine is incessant. Now, I bring CD's.

Try listening on a Sunday morning - not a ''drum machine'' in sight.

Ouch!

But they make a big thing of the English bit and it's phony.

I make no apologies for wishing they had kept the percussive, synthetic sounds they foist on us as music for six days a week in the basement where it belongs.

Actually, in addition to the CD's I listen to some of the other Portuguese stations - tho I must say many of them are also addicted to techno. Seems to me that the stuff went out in Detroit about ten years ago. Why it persists in Portugal of all places boggles my little mind.

Interestingly, what do we hear more and more here in Toronto? Fado! And it's gorgeous music. Can't say that I heard much of it while in Portugal this year.

But then I'm an old fogie who needs extra pillows. My hearing is going as well.

SHOWWWIE.. agree with you on 'Fado'

My one and only experience of 'live Fado', was in Carvoeiro (a year ago Sept.), and I was told beforehand, that I wouldn't enjoy it, that it was sad & melancholy..so I was doubtful.
But I was so glad I went along..and as I've written in ellie's corner, I had a great night out. I was totally enthralled by all the performers (4)..each different in style..and found myself singing along (good job no one heard me

).
I would love to go,see more. Was told its sort of seasonal (by owner of Cass da Pao) / autumn time?
I was given name of place in Silves, where I could hear more, but Ive since lost the name

.Also of place in Porches?
Anyone have any idea here please?

I don't know if it's still running but we used to listen to what sounded like
Radio Nostalgia and if memory serves they did the news in english on the hour.

Hi Janet.

That would not have been Nostalgia (now called Radio Clube Portugues), I am pretty sure they only did PT news - they just had a computer playing music in loops and weaving in a brief newscast that was recorded at 5am and repeated for the whole day

We couldn't find Noostalgia this year. In past years, it was what we listened to mostly. I wonder how we missed it. Or maybe they now have a program director with a drum machine as well?
