Single Measles Jab?

Post by Paul Nice Man »

We have twin boys who have not had the MMR yet. I'd like to have the single vaccines which aren't available in the UK and was wondering if I could arrange to have their measles injection while on holiday this summer. We'll be in CVO for 4 weeks from the end of July.

Can anyone give me some advice on whether this jab is available in Portugal and whether there are any clinics who might be able to help.

Many thanks

Are any of us qualified to answer that one PM, or a parent's wishes?

:? I know this is a personal view but I am with you on the single jabs, mainly because my daughter has got Crohn's disease which we feel may have resulted from the MMR jab, it has been blamed for Crohn's and other bowel disorders.

I wish I had been able to have more information then, (this is back 20 years now) seeing my daughter go through three operations, as well as being on dangerouse drugs for the rest of her life is no fun...

The MMR topic is very emotional to a lot of people, and some prefer to just tell people "it is OK". If Mr T Blair will not say what is good enough for his child, why should anyone believe the MMR is as safe as the government say?

OP, these people will do a single jab for only £280. http://www.samedaydoctor.co.uk/prices.aspx . Seems a bargain to me. I say, I hope you aren't trying to save a few quid by relying on another country's health service are you? Frankly matey, that doesn't seem to be particularly ethical.

Paul is qualified in wanting what he considers is best for his kids. IMHO he is justified in asking his question. Personally, I don't think any of us are justified in questioning his motives. If people want to discuss the pros and cons of MMR then there are no doubt loads of forums that will oblige. I personally don't believe this should be one of them. :D

Sadly for you I don't have to do what you would like me to do.
Paul is entitled to do what he wants even though it may possibly have a negative effect on his or other childrens health.
I have a right to ask what is wrong with mmr and point out a UK establishment where he can pay for whatever he wants and query whether he is attempting to save some dosh by getting the children vaccinated in Portugal.
I can't think of any other reason why he would want to do that otherwise. What seems to be happening is that he will not pay in the UK although he can clearly afford foreign holidays.

What you can't do is to decide what I can or cannot say or think.

I wasn't suggesting that I could dictate what you can and cannot do. I was simply putting forward my view, as you have done. But somehow it seems to me that you make it confrontational and I've noticed it in some of your other posts. I admit that is just my view as well.

I don't propose going any further down this route.

No, the reason I ask is because there are a lot of dubious clinics in uk offering the single jabs and I want to be absolutely 100% sure that whoever is administering medicine to my children is a professional and the vaccine is licensed and 100% safe. I really don't know where to start here.

I thought that if the single jabs were ordinarilly available and licensed in Portugal, I'd be able to arrange their vaccinations without worrying whether the clinics administering them were a bit dodgy.

There was no ulterior motive regarding money; I fully expect to pay.

My children are priceless.

I don't know what Pauls motives are for enquiring about single vaccinations, I'm glad that my children are beyond the age where I have to make the decision, if they weren't I would opt for single jabs & before pm leaps up & down I would say that it was my choice made after considerable thought & research as is the case with most parents. If there is the slightest possibility that there is a link between the muliple vaccines & various conditions including autism why take the risk when there is a perfectly acceptable alternative in single vaccines? Why are parents being forced to look abroad for the alternative? I have several friends who have been categoricaly refused the option of single jabs by their GPs, not because the GPs are against single jabs but because they have been instructed to do so.

Perhaps people should just read the topic and not "assume" motives.
It was a simple request for local information.
We have already had a other children vaccinated in the UK, thank you.
Personal reasons, and lots of research have lead us to not want the MMR.
What's wrong with MMR?
That is what I asked. A simple question. I then suggested what I am sure is a quite reputable company in the UK. Apparently this is not the thing to do at all.
administering medicine to my children is a professional
What I would do in those circumstances is to take the view that there isn't any valid research that shows anything whatever wrong with mmr. What you are actually doing is risking health on the word of Wakefield, who was being financed by lawyers sueing vaccine companies. I suppose you have read this. http://briandeer.com/mmr-lancet.htm

I don't give three figs what you do, I just hate seeing people so badly misguided.

Your children's lives and health are the most important thing in the world to you, that is without question.
If I had the information which is available now, back when we were just told our children need the MMR triple vaccine then I would be doing a lot of research and then make my mind up as to what I would do. I fully understand that the jabs are essential, I just think as parents we should have all the information possible available so that we can make intelligent decisions.

They haven't proved that there is anything wrong with the MMR but also they haven't proved that it is totally safe. It is as has been said a very emotive subject, but I don't see why Paul should be attacked for asking the question.
