I don't see why I should be attacked for asking a question which was all I did.
It is actually not possible to prove that something is safe, you can only prove it isn't.

Sorry pm, I don't like to argue but that was not all you asked, you went on to comment on the fact that maybe this Paul was trying to get a free/cheap jab for his/her child while in Portugal, you actually even commented on:

What seems to be happening is that he will not pay in the UK although he can clearly afford foreign holidays.

I think that is why you are being 'attacked' although I think that is a rather 'strong' word. Questioned might be better.

Ok you are quite right. Actually what annoys me is people like Mr Wakefield and the newspapers who cause a massive amount of damage by running scare stories

PM - you think they are scare sories, and yes the media do love such topics as they make good headlines. But some people have experience with MMR that makes them not want to use it. And to be honest I don't trust most of what the present government are saying, and if Princess Tony would say he had his kids done then the story would have been closed in the media.

Both of my children have had seperate MMR injections at a private clinic in Birmingham. Cost between £80-£120 per injection. Send me a PM if you want more info.

Can anyone give me some advice on whether this jab is available in Portugal and whether there are any clinics who might be able to help.

I don't think you'd get any help from the nhs docs here, you wouldn't have time!! Try one of the private clinics like Monte Carvoeiro, Dr Pertl is always helpful and will probably be able to help you

Difficult decision to make.
My son & daughter-in- law decided that our granddaughter(I yearold)should have the jabs.
All my kids had all their jabs..yet my youngest caught measles when he was about 8 and he had it very bad..complicated by bronchitis.
My sister,whos now retired, wouldnt have her kids have their jabs,despite our mum trying to persuade her..then it was 'whooping cough' that was the bad one.
Her daughter, aged 5,caught it and was in very bad way.. she had a collapsed lung, was in oxygen tent and in hospital for some time. She has suffered from chest illnesses ever since.
I know thats not relative to today, but at the same time, some of these illnesses are re-appearing(Ive read that this is because people are not letting their kids have the jab ?)...and I believe couple kiddies have died from measles..can be very nasty illness.
But, it is difficult, if you are worried..and our children's health comes first.
not easy.

:lol:Hi Ellie, I think that the children should definitely be immunised against the diseases but I do believe in the choice of either the triple or single jabs.

In hind sight I would have both my girls done with the single injections, knowing now that possibly Suze's illness could be due to the MMR she had as a child.

I think a lot of parents just stopped giving their children the jab which is why we now have these diseases coming back into our lives, also the number of immigrants coming into the country who possibly have not had the MMR would also be a cause for these illnesses coming back.

If the government wanted 100% vaccination then why not offer the MMR or three single jabs? The three does need more time and the worry is some may not complete the course of jabs, but better that then some having no jabs.

I know lots of people who have had the single jabs in the UK. Just go onto any parenting forum and they will have the info (unless its changed in the UK recently of course). I actually took mine back to the UK not long after we'd arrived here for the MMR! Personally, as there has been no evidence to link anything with the MMR I have no problem with it (and I just pray that my kids don't develop anything!)

When did vaccines for these diseases come in? I had all three diseases plus everything else going.

Did you see the news report last night, on the escalation of measles in the last decade? Because people are worried and not letting their kids have the jabs?
It stated, that even in certain areas of UK (sussex, surrey), this time last year there were 6 cases..this year theres been 106....and theres been fatalities.
Can be a very nasty illness, that can be complicated by pneumonia or bronchitis....and if severe enough, theres a danger of meningitis too(I never knew of this)

when i registered at my university doctors, i was "advised" to have the MMR, as there was a bit of a measles epidemic the year before. I really dont know much about the subject though
