ADSL and p-p-p-problems......

Post by Rob F »

If you would like to share some thoughts and experiences about ADSL in/around Carvoeiro, please join this topic.

I have my ADSL connection (via SAPO) for some months now, and for most of the time it works pretty good. However every now and then the signal is completely down, sometimes for 10 or 15 secs, but sometimes even longer, even up to one minute or more. Checking the ADSL control panel it shows that both transmit and receive signal is zero, when it should have a max of 128 & 512 Kbps.

I have checked with SAPO but they cannot give me a reason, let alone a solution. :? Anyone here who can shine some light?

No replys from ADSL users so far... does this mean it works 100% for you and that the problem I have is individual and not structural? Would very much appreciate your input.

Thanks ahead,

Rob.

Hi Rob,

ADSL connection failures are mostly due to configuation settings at the provider side or local telephone-central adjustments (telephone - boxes).
Your provider might do some band - measurements to rule the first possiblity out. Secondly they might want to send someone from the telephone company to check if everything in te central is wired like it should. I take that you are connected trhrough a router? Make sure that the IP configuration is right. Do you have a fixed or dynamic IP? If dynamic, make sure you 'uncheck' fixedin the router settings. For dynamic you also should use the DHCP protocol.

Hope my post is of any use!

G'luck - -Rob

I can confirm similar problems with Telepac - recently it has been impossible to connect - either no response or connection terminated.

I have been told to sit down with my PC turned on and connected and call their help line so they can test the line.

I have had intermitant problems connecting via Sapo/telepac over the last few days. Details of failure to connect were either diconnected or the computer that you are dialling is not answering. After a few tries I could however usually get a connection and things then worked normally.
Perhaps the recent rains affected something. Fingers crossed it all seems OK again today.
