Hi All.

We have just returned from a quick trip to CVO and had a very useful chat with a nurse in Lagoa. Thanks for all the comments and a note regarding the new measles "outbreak", perhaps the same media frenzy that highlighted the MMR is now stirring things up for the other side to balance it out?

As I said before if Princess Tony B had said his children had the MMR and not gone strangely quiet, this story would not have had so much front page space!

Paul, this wasn't the media / newpaper hype (wotever)..it was headlines on BBC news Thurs eve(think it was on Newnight too)...and it was doctors speaking on there, concerned about the rise in numbers of cases in Measles..a steep one!
If there are rising numbers of cases (substantially so), it gives rise for concern, wouldn't you say?
Nothing to do with 'Prncess Tony' as you call him....and any responsible,sensible parent,will balance the argument for themselves?
For what its worth, if my kids were little again, I would still agree to them having the jabs.
See Ditzy's post...and the advice given to her by Uni Doctor.
P.S. BTW Paul, what did this nurse in Lagoa have to say?

It's not a case of 'the other side'. It's one researcher who was looking for cash and happy to be extremely lenient with the truth or at best had a poor grasp of statistics versus everyone else.
I don't think what Tony Blair said or didn't say had much to do with it. What did was newspapers with no ethics at all stirring up the story to increase sales. You then get parents saying there might be something in it so they best not get little Derek vaccinated. I mean we haven't had measles for years. And now we have.
So it is one guy, who seems to have got off scot free and the newspapers who are the culprits.

The thing is the fact that now parents can have the choice to have their children vacinated singularly or with the triple vaccine. It will not cause an outbreak of the diseases if the single jabs are given as the child will be protected. It was after the 'hype' in the newspapers about the Doctor who said there was a link between the triple and Autism that caused parents to stop all together in giving the jabs.

The choice is much better now in letting parents vacinate singularly or with the triple. Personnaly I would give my girls the single vaccines and not the triple if I had the chance again. They would still be protected.

Yes but it has no advantage and just costs the nhs more, so why should the nhs pay for it.

That is true but if it was a real issue then I would pay for them to have the single jabs, I know a lot of people might not be able to do this, but for me my children are worth the cost of single jabs, I can not put a price on their health.

This is quite a raw subject for me, as I have had to watch my youngest daughter undergo three major operations for her Crohn's and to know that she will have this for the rest of her life. If there was any chance I could have avoided this by not having the MMR then believe me I would have done it. Whatever the cost.

We now have to think about private insurance for her for the rest of her life......agains the cost of three jabs!

No there isn't a definate link, it has been suggested that some bowel disorders are possibly linked to the MMR, they haven't proved it has a link, also they haven't proved it hasn't. The fact is that since 1980 Crohn's has been on the increase in 13 - 15 year ols, especially girls.

If I had the ability to have had 'hind sight' I would have gone for the single jabs no matter what the cost. I just have a feeling that it has something to do with her illness, wheather I am right or not is totally speculation.

It seems simple, offer the single vaccination or the triple. Everyone is covered. The triple vaccine is slightly higher in costs due to the three visits as they are not done together. But how much money is wasted on other silly adverts and "Labour PR"?
We are often told we now have a "choice", but more then ever we are not given any choice and being told by this government what we can do and think. Every issue seems to have a "pc" compliance.

The Lagoa nurse was very helpful and informative, we are happy with what we have found, thank you.
